Visiting Officer

The role of a Visiting Officer within the Business Rates team will be a crucial one, requiring a blend of independence, planning skills, and interpersonal abilities.For someone interested in this position, it will be important to be organised, detail-oriented, and comfortable with travel. Building and maintaining relationships with local businesses and contributing to the community's development through accurate data collection and reporting would be key responsibilities.This is a part-time role (19 hours a week), travelling around Bristol with a Clevedon office base.Salary is dependent on experience.Main duties of the role include:

• Conduct inspection visits and advice relating to all manner of discounts and exemptions.
• Support members of the public in completing applications\changes.
• Gather\verify evidence in conjunction with assessments.
• Hand-deliver notification of recovery intention\outcomes to members of businesses.
• Produce and deliver completion notices.
• Produce reports relating to the visits.
• Provide basic revenue processing duties.
• Ensure knowledge is kept up to speed in relation to the organisation and site policies.
• Assist in the preparation and processing of relief reviews.

Preferred skills:

• Access to a vehicle and a clean driving licence are essential.
• Good planning and motivation skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Familiar with the use of technology
• Ability to work to pre-agreed targets
• Ability to work under your own direction
• Previous experience of an inspection/visiting role is useful, though not essential.
