We are a dynamic local authority providing essential services to the people of Gloucester. Our main office, based in the Eastgate Centre on Eastgate Street in the heart of the city, is an accessible, modern and light space designed for collaborative working and finding new ways to work. It's all open plan, with a living green wall and other plants without set desks, so you can sit next to someone new every day.  We're always looking to improve how we work and we offer flexible and agile working to give our people a great work life balance.

About the role…

The Gloucester Guildhall are looking for a Visitor Experience Assistant to join the frontline operations team to assist the delivery of their jam-packed programme of events.

Right in the heart of the city, the Gloucester Guildhall is a vibrant and dynamic venue, hosting an impressive events programme including music, comedy, film, theatre and immersive experiences. As well as our 400-capacity main hall, we have a beautiful recently refurbished cinema, multiple meeting and conference spaces and a Bar and Kitchen – all housed in a beautiful Grade II listed building.

We can guarantee you that every single day will be different. You will be moving equipment and furniture in preparation for a room hire, ensuring that our live events all run to plan (and safely), providing customer service excellence to all of our visitors, picking up back-office tasks as well as being there to reset the site ready for the next event.

What we need from you…

We are looking for someone with experience in the events industry or within a cultural venue. Top quality customer service is an absolute must – we pride ourselves in delivering memorable experiences. You must be confident to talk to large groups of people, be able to think on your feet and remain calm, positive, and professional when working under pressure.

You will be work under the supervision of a Duty Manager when on shift with a Team Leader providing operational direction. You need to be prepared to step up and have the confidence to take charge if your Duty Manager is dealing with a situation in the venue. This is an active role where you will be on your feet a considerable amount and ask you to take this into account when applying for this role.

This role is one of several generic roles within Gloucester City Council therefore you may be asked to work from another cultural venue including Museum of Gloucester in supporting their programme – a great opportunity to gain new experiences.

You will also be on an annualised hours contract. The events/cultural industry is demand led but generally, the venue will open at 9:00am and will not close until the early hours on event nights. We ask for flexibility from the role, but we can also be flexible should you have any other commitments.

What we can do for you…

For all your hard work, you will receive the following:

  • Flexible working pattern
  • Excellent Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS)
  • Generous annual leave entitlement - 25 days annual leave rising to 30 days after 5 years continuous service (FTE)
  • An option to purchase 10 days of additional leave per year (pro rata for part-time staff)
  • Regular job-specific training, career development and qualification opportunities
  • Supportive and positive working environment with regular, robust supervision
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) that provides free, confidential, counselling and advice for employees, available 24 hours a day, online and by telephone, and an in-house Occupational Health service
