Job description

At Swindon Borough Council, we want our town to be the best it can be. Our ambitious vision is supported by realistic transformation programmes, with the people of Swindon at their heart. Because that’s who we’re doing it for – the communities and businesses that make our town great. As part of the Council, you’ll support a friendly local authority making decisions with real impact. It’s all for better public services. Better processes. And a better quality of life, for everyone. Join us, and Swindon will be better with you.

Museum & Art Swindon is seeking two new part-time customer focussed Visitor Experience Assistants, to join the new Museum opening in Spring 2024. The ideal candidates should have experience working in a visitor environment with an interest in local history or art. The Museum collections include natural history, archaeology, geology, social and industrial history, alongside a nationally-significant collection of modern and contemporary British art.

Your next role

The successful candidates will undertake all aspects of Visitor Experience to provide an excellent customer focussed frontline service for all museum visitors school groups and special events.

You will be responsible for ensuring that the visit meets customers’ highest expectations; you follow all systems in terms of H&S, security, financial and customer care.

The role will involve reception and administrated duties, promotion of the Museum collections and services assisting with interpretation, guided tours, welcome talks to school and group visits, as well as encouraging sales in the museum shop, cash handling, and offering advice on customer queries in person, via email and telephone.

The successful candidates will be on a shift rota Tuesday to Saturday. Shifts offered will include day-time shifts as well as weekend and evening work to support the Museum programme across Swindon Museums.

So, you’ll be joining us at an exciting time on our journey. We’ll look to you to share your knowledge, influence decisions and drive real, positive change.
