Role Title: Team GB House Volunteer
Reporting to Team GB House Volunteer Manager
Dates / Days / Hours
Volunteers are required to work in a flexible manner to accommodate the nature of the role and the environment.
Shifts will be 8-hours long between 07:00 – 23:00 on a rotating basis.
Volunteers should be able to commit for a minimum of 5 days (ideally 10) throughout the Games period and will receive a minimum of one rest day after five days on duty. Games periods are as follows: 21 July – 11 August
Role Purpose
Team GB is the British and Northern Irish Olympic team – one of the nation’s most successful teams and one of its favourite brands. Run by the British Olympic Association (BOA).
Volunteers will support a range of operations at the Team GB House. Volunteers will likely interact with a wide array of people both before and during the Games. Examples include BOA/BPA staff, Sport Team Leaders and Athletes, VIP guests, venue staff and volunteers from other sites.
Key Activities
- Assisting with venue set up, including building and moving furniture, unpacking equipment, installing branding and decoration, cleaning
- Assisting with translation and communication when required
- Helping to resolve issues and ensuring the venue is ready.
- Welcoming visitors to the venue and directing them appropriately,
- Assisting with tasks at the front desk / help point, such as checking tickets, distributing accreditation passes and checking IDs,
- Assisting with movement of equipment and distribution of gifts
- Escorting VIP guests around the venue, making them feel welcome
- Assisting with event delivery and maintenance of lounges and hospitality areas, keeping them tidy and safe, and reporting any damaged furniture or spillages
- Assisting with arrivals and departures
- Translating into both English and French to support with daily operations,
- Replenishing hydration and snack areas,
- Cleaning / hygiene control
- Supporting with providing or researching local information such as shops and services and answering queries from friends and families of the athletes,
- Assisting guests and athletes with planned movements.
- Assisting with closing down of the venue, including moving furniture, packing up equipment and taking down branding,
- Assisting with translation and communication with contacts when needed.
Person Specification
Candidates applying for the Volunteer role should be able to demonstrate:
- Good English language skills (and the majority of volunteers will also need to be able to translate verbally from/to French),
- Positive attitude and willingness to support where required,
- Ability to work as part of a team as well as on an individual basis,
- Good interpersonal and organisation skills,
- Ability to multi-task, be innovative and flexible,
- Good attention to detail including the ability to report on / record progress of tasks as required,
- Effective time management skills.
The following skills would also be an advantage:
- General familiarity of the Paris area and local public transport
- Understanding of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
Other
- Due to its engagement with the team this role may require a Disclosure and Barred Services (DBS) check.
- All Team members are required to sign the Team Members Agreement.
- Volunteers should have their own accommodation in Paris.
