Those huge small victories

Working in our Children’s Homes means being a part of a young person’s day to day life. This means being there for the highest highs and lowest lows. Our night support workers are a part of enabling our young people to get their childhood back and create pathways to become well rounded adults – an incredibly rewarding role to have. There will be challenges along the way but there will also be the smallest moments which feel like a huge small victory!

Our homes accommodate young people with social, emotional and mental health needs, and our aim is to create the best possible outcome for the young people in our care. Our night support workers are fulfilled by the idea of affecting even the smallest positive changes in our young people, so we celebrate the little things.

One of the best environments in SEND

“Changing Lives, Building Futures” - We really do make a difference at Cedar House School

Enabling young people to progress and succeed is part of the DNA of our integrated education, care, and clinical team and this is achieved by a commitment to truly celebrating the individuality and talents of every young person.

The primary provision provides a nurturing environment which along with extensive therapeutic support allows a seamless transition to a secondary school that boasts a broad curriculum and far-ranging vocational offer. In addition, the state-of-the-art residential offering enables those young people who reside at the school to benefit from the 24-hour curriculum, while living in a truly homely and personalised environment.

The result is that each young person develops the skills and confidence to achieve both academic and life successes, where they are given the launchpad to realise their potential and leave ready to live life to the full. We were recently recognised as Good in Education and Outstanding for our Residential provision.

Get out what you put in

We’re looking for the kind of person who gets along naturally with all kinds of people, but isn’t afraid to get stuck into a bit of cleaning and admin work during the quiet hours either. Not to mention carry out building checks and keep the house safe throughout the night. In short, it’s all about your sense of wanting to build a positive experience for our young people and give them the home they deserve in the best possible environment.

We’re looking for the kind of individual who gets along naturally with everyone, and can also say yes to the following:

  • You’ve got the right attitude and approach, whether or not you’ve got previous experience in care or a similar role (although it would be advantageous)
  • You’re keen to complete a Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (England) within two years (if you don’t have it or its equivalent already) – which we’ll pay for!
  • You have held a full UK driving licence for at least 12 months

What we do for you

We know you’re going to do great things. For your hard work and commitment, we reward you with the best salary and benefits package in the education sector. With us, you’ll get to bring learning to life and make a genuine difference to the lives of our young people – plus you’ll get:

  • Training: A full induction and on the job training
  • Holiday: You’ll work hard at WG, so you’ll be rewarded with full school holidays
  • Progression: If career development is your thing, most of our head teachers and leaders have been promoted from within our group
  • Flexible benefits: meaning you can increase/decrease benefits such as life insurance – check out our benefits here
  • Wellbeing: a host of wellbeing tools and advice including employee assistance
  • Medical cover so you can claim back the cost of things like an opticians or dentist appointment and a host of high-street discounts
  • Beautiful working environments with the very best facilities – check out our schools here
  • A recommend a friend scheme that offers a £2,000 bonus every time
  • Contributory pension (matched up to 5%)

Bring your whole-self to work

Here at Witherslack Group, we celebrate everyone’s differences as that’s what makes us the best at what we do. Our young people come from all walks of life, diverse backgrounds and with different needs – and our workforce reflects that diversity, so that our teams can engage, encourage and inspire our young people to be themselves. You don’t need experience, but there are a few things we’ll be looking for from you:

  • A ‘can do’ attitude – a team player who rolls up their sleeves to help others
  • We genuinely care about our young people (and each other) so honesty and empathy is a must
  • The resilience to be able to deal with challenging situations
  • A full UK driving licence which you’ve held for at least 12 months
  • If you don’t have a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent), we’ll pay for you to study and support you every step of the way
