We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Warehouse Duty Manager to join us on a full time, permanent basis at our distribution centre in Frating, Colchester. This is a Night Shift (10pm-6am) role working 37.5 hours per week, 5 days a week Sunday to Thursday.
As a Warehouse Duty Manager you will be responsible for delivering the day to day distribution throughput that ensures the accurate and timely provision of Customer orders on behalf of Penguin Random House.
We are looking for someone with great people management skills and experience, who is able to develop and nurture their warehouse team leaders and set the team leaders up for success.
Key responsibilities include:
- Manage the warehouse processes, systems and people on a daily basis, ensuring sufficient resources, employees and allocation of workload/responsibilities to ensure that the operation runs efficiently and at maximum performance.
- Drives overall shift performance, ensuring that a ‘can do’ positive attitude is maintained within each and every department and that issues are responded to efficiently and effectively.
- Responsible for the overall management of the people within the warehouse operation, monitoring team trends, supporting, and coaching first line managers and motivating employees by being consistent, devolving responsibility and developing trust.
- Delivering excellent results through effective leadership of a team of Warehouse Team Leaders.
- Drives performance management to ensure that all team members are consistently achieving the required targets and performance and are being developed in all areas of the Warehouse.
- Creates a learning culture, where employees feel empowered to do the best work they can and looks to ensure that a succession plan is shaped for the whole site.
- Provide support for the Operations Manager ensuring the activities of the warehouse operation are in line with the strategic and tactical needs of Penguin Random House Distribution and the Group as a whole.
- Implements the business plan or road map, by defining detailed plans for the warehouse, effectively utilising procedures, resources and communication processes to ensure that all plans are communicated and achieved.
What you’ll bring to the role:
- Strong written and spoken English skills, including experience with Microsoft Office software programmes.
- A professional, self-driven and organised individual with robust team management experience within a warehouse setting (including developing staff, and performance management).
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively to a wide range of people at all levels.
- The ability to remain calm under pressure and manage fluctuating workloads along with competing priorities.
- Strong influencing skills, with the ability to lead and inspire teams of people.
- Commitment to the highest standards experience of delivering high quality work in a high volume Distribution Centre.
- Proven experience of working in an environment of Continuous Improvement.
- Good knowledge and understanding of Production/Material Control and Supply Chain Processes, techniques and systems.
- IOSH Managing Safely and NEBOSH certification are desired but not essential.

Salary: £36,000 - £44,000 (plus 30% shift premium) depending on how your skills and experience align to the role, plus benefits.
