What you+rsquo;ll be doing...

Whilst you wait to undertake the various aspects of driver training you will be part of a team to undertake Waste Collection. This will be in accordance the methods and safe systems of work laid down by the Council. This includes but is not limited to general refuse, recyclable, commercial and green waste.

Act and work as part of a team to deliver the services that the Council requires to a high standard.

Act and work to meet the prescribed standards and requirements of health and safety, ensuring there is no impact on the general public through the completion of the Waste Collection round.

When you pass all the requirements for your HGV Licence and CPC card including:

Ensure that all transport management requirements are always met, and the vehicle is operated within the Depot+rsquo;s safety protocols.

Act as the supervisor to the designated crew throughout the round.

Undertake performance reviews relating to designated crew members.

Act and work in a professional, competent and positive way with customers commensurate with the role.

Operate In-Cab technology systems to provide digital feedback and other administration tasks like contamination cards that the Council requires.

Collect missed and illegally tipped refuse under the direction of the Waste Operations Service manager.

Take full responsibility for your designated vehicle undertaking driver checks prior to and on completion of each shift, reporting any faults to the Workshop and fulfilling all the requirements placed upon you as part of your role as an HGV/LGV driver.

Work as part of a team to ensure standards, targets and performance indicators for the services are met with a focus on customer needs and continuous service improvement.

Be flexible to achieve the council+rsquo;s goals and expectations, this may entail working early mornings/late afternoons and some weekends where required as agreed with your line manager, particularly following a bank holiday or a period of inclement weather for example. This may mean working beyond normal working hours and undertaking additional hours (up to 8 per week when needed), if requested to meet the needs of the service.

You must have...

Met the minimum criteria to drive a Heavy Good Vehicle, prerequisite of the role:

Hold a current full (Category B) driving Licence for 2 years or more and have no more that 3 penalty point on your license.

Be able to meet the medical and eyesight requirements mandated by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA). This will be conducted as part of the onboarding process and must be passed to secure the role.

Study and undertake training to pass Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) modules 2 and 4.

Essential Criteria:

Ability to undertake repetitive manual lifting and moving tasks i.e. the emptying of waste receptacles.

Ability to follow procedures and accept direction.

Have an ability to complete tasks in a defined way as directed.

Ability to interact with customers in a positive and professional manner.

Essential Skills:

Ability to work flexibly as part of a team to deliver the service.

Demonstrates a working knowledge/ability to meet health and safety and other operational requirements.

Develop the ability to lead by example and supervise a crew for the duration of shift.
