The Post Holder has a significant role to play upon the quality of the waste collections services throughout the District. This is one of the most highly visible services of the Council.
The role of a Waste Operative Loader is to be responsible for the safe and effective collection of waste material as directed. This could include domestic refuse, recycling material, commercial refuse/recycling and garden waste materials.
No experience is necessary, although prior knowledge of waste collections would be advantageous. The Post Holder be self motivated and should have a good standard of health, physical fitness and stamina. They must have good communication skills and be able to receive and understand both written and verbal instructions, together with being able to work without direct supervision within a small team.
The Post Holder must have good inter-personable skills, be able to uphold high levels of Customer Care, and be able to represent the Council in a positive manner.
A good understanding and awareness of Health and Safety is essential. 
The possession of or potential to acquire a
Class ‘C’ LGV Driving Licence would be an advantage.
 
Knowledge of waste collection operations is highly desirable, but not essential, as training will be given.
Understanding and awareness of Health and Safety
Experience of outdoor working and working on the highway are also desirable
Ability to work well with others
Ability to take instructions

The Post Holder is required to work hours to meet the needs of the service
Basis weekly hours are 37 with 4 and 5 day weekly patterns in place
The working week may include weekend working, (Saturday and Sunday) to meet the needs of the service

This job includes duties that may require a substantial amount of physical effort and mobility on a frequent basis. To meet the needs of the service, the ability to undertake the full range of duties for the contracted hours will be required.
