Job description

Our private water/utilities client are seeking a Water Quality Analyst to join their Asset Management team on a hybrid/remote working basis.

Our client has a main office in Barnsley but is open to applicants being based anywhere across the regions they cover. Ability to drive is therefore essential. This is a fixed term 12 month role that has the potential to be made permanent if the candidate performs well in the role.

The Asset Management Team are responsible for the optimum whole-life asset management of Ministry of Defence water and wastewater assets operated by our client. As such, you will play a key part in ensuring our client maintains the highest standards possible.

Their Asset Management Team 'develop the plan' for planned maintenance, capital investment and routine plans that balance asset condition, cost, risk and performance for all interventions needed across water and wastewater treatment works assets. Acting on feedback, database sources, and performance reports, the Analyst will work collaboratively with stakeholders across the business and external to ensure that the team prepare a visible and dynamic risk-based work schedule appropriate to specific asset needs.

Management of asset risk and the promotion and prioritisation of capital schemes is pivotal to the role of the analyst. The role requires accurate evidence-based decision making on investments, creation of risk mitigation plans, and sponsorship of capital schemes that deliver all regulatory and contractual requirements and business objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate personal responsibility for health and safety.
  • Development of dynamic Operational & Maintenance plans by considering risk, performance and cost. This will require effective decision making.
  • The role-holder will be a subject matter expert with responsibility for co-ordinating activities on clean water treatment and Water Quality compliance (specifically Private Water Supply Regulations and Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations).
  • Lead on Environmental regulatory processes including management of environmental permitting for discharges and activity that underpins our ISO 14001 compliance.
  • Advises & Supports on Ecological compliance.
  • Responsible for the delivery of training to other team members in their field of expertise.
  • Development of the business capital programme through the prioritisation, promotion and justification of investments and act as project sponsor throughout the Project Lifecycle.
  • To interpret data from a variety of sources and provide analytical insight and make evidence-based decisions.
  • Review planned and reactive work feedback whilst using lead and lag indicators of performance and to use insight to amend the dynamic maintenance plan and/or input into the Capital Delivery programme as an emerging project.
  • To support incident response and provide technical advice and reactive support to the company including the completion of technical investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Supporting the Asset Compliance Manager with Engagement and liaison with Regulators (Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales, Local Authorities, DWI & Public Health).
  • Advise and support golden measures (asset health monitoring) for water treatment assets and Water Quality compliance; taking appropriate action where required based on trends and results.
  • Complete submissions required to Regulatory bodies.
  • This role may require regular travel and occasional overnight stays.

Skills/experience/qualifications

  • Knowledge and understanding of asset management principles and processes.
  • Knowledge of potable water treatment processes and environmental compliance relevant to management of water treatment activities gained through industry experience.
  • Ability to produce, export and analyse data and interpret it to make effective decisions.
  • Extensive experience of work prioritisation and the ability to achieve key deliverables first, whilst managing key stakeholders.
  • Experience of asset management systems and databases.
  • Excellent organisational skills to meet targets and deadlines.
  • Communication skills (both oral and written) that enables information to be shared effectively and is easily understood.
  • Commercial awareness and understanding of the commercial impact and cost to the business when making decisions.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work on own initiative as well as working as an effective team member.
  • Takes ownership and pride in high performance and standards.
  • Challenges convention and looks for smarter ways of working to improve service and reduce cost.
  • Desire to improve and seek continual improvement.
  • Project management or water treatment/ engineering / construction / manufacturing experience an advantage
  • Formal Asset Management, Scientific or Environmental qualification desirable
  • Membership of an asset management, water management or environmental institute.
