Job description

Do you have a background in hydrology or water resource management?

Are you passionate about protecting our water supply and enabling growth?

We want to be the water company people want to be supplied by and want to work for

Within our Water Resources division, you will play a critical role in producing, maintaining, and developing water supply forecasts and Water Resources models.

This activity is critical to our long-term capacity to satisfy the requirements of a growing population, a changing climate, and safeguard the environment.  We operate in a water-stressed region, and the need for a sustainable water supply has become increasingly critical to present and future generations.

You should have a background in environmental science, preferably in hydrology, hydrogeology or hydrology ideally with 5 years relevant experience.

Technical understanding of ground and surface waters, as well as modelling experience, will allow you to contribute to the creation of precise predictions and numerical analyses that will allow us to monitor and manage the performance of our Water Resources and service levels.

We would be willing to consider this as a development step for someone with 2-3 years similar Water Resources modelling experience.

You'll work with our operational colleagues to ensure that water production is in accordance with our water abstraction licences, as well as with asset management peers to contribute to the creation of investment plans and strategies.  This might result in the construction of new boreholes, treatment plants, and other infrastructural assets.  This position will also communicate with our regulators to offer updates, reporting, and responds to any inquiries.

You'll help us to plan and manage our Water Resources through deployable output assessments, sustainable abstraction appraisals, drought planning, and water production planning.  As a result, the capacity to focus on both immediate and long-term goals will be critical.

You’ll grow a career with a meaningful purpose.  Be you, belong and be valued.

  • Come to work to be safe, valued, and trusted.
  • We’ll encourage you to create and pursue new opportunities for personal growth.
  • A place to be the real you, build deeper connections and enjoy a sense of belonging.
  • Be invested in helping us to create a sustainable water supply for now, and in the future.

What will be your key accountabilities?

  • Use technical knowledge of ground and surface waters along with technical capability to deliver detailed modelling and numerical analysis e.g. deployable output, headroom uncertainty, levels of service, security of supply analysis and technical reporting.
  • To promote plans and processes to deliver regulatory compliance, for instance Water Resources planning, drought planning, production planning, sustainable abstraction appraisals and supply forecasting. This involves an understanding of the relevant regulations and methodologies, setting and communicating related objectives and reporting based on auditable data and methodology.
  • To supervise and ensure delivery of contractor activities such as investigation programmes and pilot studies
  • Use technical knowledge of Water Resources supply to identify and communicate details of issues in existing systems or processes.
  • To maintain discussions across departments, engaging and influencing people, where there may be differing priorities, to ensure consensus and an agreed way of delivering regulatory requirements (e.g. Water Resoures Management Plans and Production Planning)
  • To provide technical support on an ad hoc basis to departments across the business who require it with regard to environmental related licencing / permitting and supply forecast i.e. planned levels of service / security of supply
  • To maintain relationships, including liaison and negotiation of potential areas of operational differences, with external stakeholders, industry network groups, and industry regulators on the Company’s supply forecast and other specified regulatory areas

What will you bring to this role?

  • A relevant environmental science degree e.g. Hydrogeology, Hydrology, Geology, Environmental Science (equivalent training and industry experience will also be considered).
  • Confident communicating with a wide range of internal and external audiences.
  • Able to lead developments and improvements to business processes.
  • Relevant experience of supply modelling / forecasting.
  • An understanding of the water industry, UK utility regulatory framework would be useful.

What can you expect from us?

  • Hybrid working (2 days per week in the office).
  • Excellent stakeholder pension scheme, up to 10% employer contribution
  • 5 weeks holiday entitlement, rising to 6 weeks with length of service
  • Health Cash Plan
  • Life assurance
  • Wellbeing related benefits
