Job Introduction
We are looking for enthusiastic and creative journalists to join our Digital News weekend rota. You will be part of the team that produces the stories, videos and features on the biggest daily news, bringing in many millions of users from the UK and around the world.
Main Responsibilities
A Journalist on the News team will be expected to write accurate, pithy news stories or produce timely digital video - with flair and context. You will have a love of news, sharp reporting skills and a thoughtful approach to how we tell a story. Tasks could range from jumping on breaking news to chasing leads and unexplored angles for a news feature. We want journalists to be able to monitor social media, search trends and audience data and use that to improve our storytelling and help us reach new audiences.
The News team needs people who are full of ideas, eager to brainstorm and contribute to our editorial meetings. You will have useful and creative approaches to the big stories in the UK and around the world, including the best formats and visual treatments.
These roles have a fixed weekend working pattern along with two weekday shifts
Are You The Right Candidate?
You will be able to demonstrate the following key criteria:

  • Experience of writing fast paced, breaking news coverage for digital platforms with attention to accuracy, context and tone
  • Experience of producing and devising news video that will appeal to Digital News consumers
  • A proven capacity to generate ideas that will help bring in new audiences and broaden our editorial agenda
  • A proven track record of working swiftly and making decisions under intense pressure
  • A track record of covering the UK and/or international news agenda
