Job Description
Job Title: Welder / Fabricator
Responsible to: Fabrication Manager
Shift: 39 hours per week, Two shifts to choose from:
06:30 to 15:30 (Mon to Thur)
06:30 to 11:30 (Fri)
OR
07:30 to 16:30 (Mon to Thur)
07:30 to 12:30 (Fri)
Job Purpose:
Performing all welding tasks using various welding equipment and technologies
Main Tasks:
- Read engineering drawings and specifications and to plan layout, assembly and welding operations.
- Determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do the job.
- Lay out, position and secure parts and assemblies according to specifications.
- Carry out flat, vertical and horizontal welding, coat nonferrous metals, inspect, brush and grind welds.
- Develop templates and other work aids to hold and align parts.
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment and determine when and what kind of maintenance is required.
- Inspect equipment, structures and materials to identify the cause of any errors or other problems or defects.
- Performs physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and mobile whole body such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling of materials.
Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent attention to detail and able to visually inspect each component as it is being prepared
- Able to work to high quality standards
- Good hand eye coordination
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly
- The ability to work as part of a team as well as independently
- Good time management
The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands.
The ability to:
- Stand for long periods of time.
- To make fast, simple, repeated movements of the finders, hands and wrists.
- To keep hand and arm steady while moving arm or while holding arm and hand in one position.
- To quickly move hand, hand together with arm, or two hands to grasp, manipulate or assemble objects.
- To see details at close range.
- To quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine to exact positions.
- To bend, stretch, twist or reach with the body, arms and/legs.
