The role
As a Welding Inspector you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You'll have the opportunity manage the provision of welding quality control and assurance within the Devonport Royal Dockyard site as well as sub-contract weld packages offsite.

Day to day, welding related quality assurances documentation, weld information sheets, and method statements for emergent work and welding related repairs.

Responsibilities as Welding Inspector will also include:

• Reviewing welding & Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) quality packs prior to final acceptance.
• Identifying the most appropriate methods for welding/weld repair, considering quality, productivity, and cost effectiveness.
• Ensuring that requirements of Babcock Quality Management Systems (QMS) and BSEN ISO 3834-2 are met for all welding related activities.
• Conducting visual inspections pre, during and post welding, and liaising and advising with managers.

This role is full time, 36 hours based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

Essential experience of the Welding Inspector:

• Practical ability and a sound knowledge of the welding processes/techniques and associated problems in both structural and pipe systems of submarines/surface ships/facilities
• Understanding the importance of quality and function of BSEN ISO 3834-2 and the importance of the role of the Welding QA/QC Engineer.
• An ability to be concise and exact when presenting technical information/solutions.
• Understanding of welding application and acceptance standards.
• Previous experience in creation of welding documentation i.e. weld information sheets.
• Extensive welding and fabrication experience.

Qualifications for the Welding Inspector:

• Craft Apprenticeship, City & Guilds in Fabrication/Engineering discipline or equivalent.
• Qualified to CSWIP or equivalent Personal Certification in Non-Destructive Testing in weld inspection processes
• Radiation Worker and Confined Space entry (Training in post may be offered)
• NSQAC - Desirable. (Training in post may be offered)

Please note that this position is subject to enhanced national security vetting. The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements (this may include obtaining SC, NNPPI or Developed Vetting (DV) level of security clearances).
