Your new company
This established children's home is looking to increase it's workforce as they are looking to expand and welcome a second young person to the home. They are currently established as an LD home, with one young person but have capacity to welcome a second young person with LD and EBD. This organisation puts its young people at the centre of the home, preparing them for life outside of care, working with them to give them both strategies to cope with and manage everyday life, whilst also teaching them practical skills such as cooking, cleaning and managing their finances. As well as this, they acknowledge that for service users to be given the best care, then their Support Workers also need to be given the right environment to work to the best of their abilities, with employee support and opportunities also core to this organisation. As well as this home, they are also in the process of opening a second home where staff will be given the opportunity to grow and develop professionally.
Your new role
Your main role as a Support Worker will be ensuring the safety and comfort of service users. You will be working within a children\'s homes, where service users have LD and EBD needs, so as well as carry out tasks to ensure the smooth running of the home, you should also encourage service users to have confidence and high self-esteem, but most importantly for them to have fun.
You will be working with young people from a variety of backgrounds, with some having experienced trauma in the past. With this, behaviour can be challenging and you will need to be adaptable. Despite the challenges, this will be a rewarding role.
What you\'ll need to succeed
At least 6 months experience in the last 2 years in similar settings
Experience and willingness to get involved and be a proactive member of the team, taking part in activities
Experience in dealing with challenging behaviour
Be passionate about support young people and giving them the best chances
Excellent communication both with service users and staff
