Outreach & Widening Participation
As part of the department’s senior management team, the Widening Participation Partnerships & Programme Development Manager will be responsible for two integral functions - managing strategic partnerships for all Outreach activity, and leading on the development of the curriculum. By providing project management, guidance and oversight and incorporating this curriculum across the department and University divisions, this role is pivotal in ensuring the University achieves its ambitious commitments, milestones and targets as outline in the Access and Participation Plan (APP). Consequently, this role will be responsible for building capacity for effective outreach delivery and the appropriate qualitative and quantitative evaluation of that work, within the department and across the University, developing regional and national partnerships to achieve the ambitious Widening Participation strategy.
As the Widening Participation Partnerships & Programme Development Manager you can expect to be involved in
- Lead on the development of an evidence-based Outreach programme, co-designed by O&WP colleagues, Student Ambassadors Schools, Colleges and other key external stakeholders ensuring alignment to the Access & Participation (APP) and broader WP Strategy, collaborating with colleagues in Uni Connect and within the Kent & Medway Progression Federation (KMPF) where appropriate.
- Develop key strategic partnerships with schools and colleges, local authorities, charities and third sector organisation in the region and nationally, and to work collaboratively with other staff in KMPF to facilitate the delivery of the curriculum.
- Lead the relationship management of the sponsored academy trust (UKAT) and ensuring successful delivery (and robust evaluation of) outreach activities. Manage and maintain good working relationships with senior leadership colleagues in the University of Kent Academy Trust.
What will you bring to the role?
- BA Honours Degree or equivalent
- Experience of working within, and substantial knowledge of, outreach and Widening Participation within the higher education sector, and the challenges facing students transitioning to HE
- Excellent understanding of the University’s Access & Participation Plan and associated commitments, milestones and targets
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate to a range of stakeholders and to negotiate, lead and influence
