Salary: £39,316+ dependent on skills and experience
What you’ll be doing:
- Equipment setup and calibration, including the building of mechanical test articles and calibration of complex test instrumentation such as pressure transducers and strain gauge balances
- Operation of test equipment, following operational procedures and processes on a wide range of test equipment across multiple test campaigns
- Operation of data acquisition systems and instrumentation, following operational procedures and processes
- Completing routine maintenance activities across the multiple facilities within the department
- Support senior engineers and project leads on any technical investigations – both test and facility
- Support the development of operations documentation including work instructions, risk assessments, fault logs, engineering reports, maintenance reports etc
- Working with a diverse engineering team – collaborate with project supervisors, customers (internal and international), design & Manufacture etc
- Support the delivery of capital investment projects within the Wind Tunnel Department
Your skills and experiences:
- Engineering apprenticeship / Engineering degree background
- Relevant test/facility experience
- Experience operating electrical control and mechanical systems in an operational environment

The team:
As a Wind Tunnel Operations Engineer you will be responsible for the safe operation of one of the many test facilities, or rigs, within the BAE Systems Air Sector Wind Tunnel Department. This includes the High Speed Wind Tunnel, Low Speed Wind Tunnel or one of the many test rigs as part of our Flight Systems Test team.
Wind Tunnels are complex specialised facilities used for testing the aerodynamic properties of various test articles, such as aircraft, payloads and much more.
You will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of aerodynamic testing, contributing to advancements in aerodynamic test.
