Job description

The Role

We are seeking an experienced working foreman skilled in managing diverse construction projects. The ideal candidate is expected to have advanced from a background in carpentry and possess a keen interest in historical buildings. This individual will play a crucial role in ensuring that projects are completed within budget, on schedule, and adhere to our safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in and oversee on-site construction activities, with a particular emphasis on refurbishing historic buildings.
  • Manage subcontractors, suppliers, and direct labour teams effectively.
  • Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental policies.
  • Develop and oversee project timelines, updating plans as needed.
  • Coordinate with clients, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to maintain clear communication and successful collaboration.
  • Perform regular site inspections and host progress meetings to address any emerging issues or delays.
  • Prepare and submit detailed project reports and documentation.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • A demonstrated history in managing residential, educational, and commercial refurbishment projects, particularly on historic buildings.
  • At least five years of experience in a combined role of hands-on construction and site management.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction methods, particularly in the context of historic buildings.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and construction management software.
  • SSSTS or SMSTS certification.
  • First Aid at Work qualification.
  • Full UK driving licence.
