Salary: £25,000 - £30,000 (DOE)
Full Time, Permanent
Monday - Friday / 07:30 - 16:30
**Job Summary:**
A Yard Operative plays a crucial role in the efficient and organised functioning of a yard or outdoor storage facility. The primary responsibilities include handling and organising materials, maintaining cleanliness and safety standards, and supporting overall operations.
**Key Responsibilities:**
1. **Material Handling:**
   - Receive, inspect, and organise incoming materials and supplies.
   - Load and unload goods, ensuring proper handling and storage.
   - Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, or other material handling equipment as required.
 2. **Yard Maintenance:**
   - Keep the yard clean, organised, and free from hazards.
   - Perform routine maintenance on equipment and report any defects or issues.
   - Ensure proper storage and disposal of waste materials.
 3. **Inventory Control:**
   - Assist in maintaining accurate inventory records.
   - Conduct periodic stock checks and report any discrepancies.
   - Work closely with the inventory or warehouse team to coordinate material movements.
 4. **Safety Compliance:**
   - Adhere to safety guidelines and protocols at all times.
   - Identify and report potential safety hazards.
   - Participate in safety training programs.
 5. **Customer Service:**
   - Assist customers in locating and retrieving materials.
   - Provide information about available products and services.
   - Ensure a positive customer experience.
 6. **Equipment Operation:**
   - Operate and maintain yard equipment such as forklifts, tractors, or other machinery.
   - Follow proper procedures for equipment use and storage.
 7. **Communication:**
   - Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other departments.
   - Report any issues, delays, or concerns promptly.
 8. **Team Collaboration:**
   - Collaborate with other Yard Operatives and departments to ensure smooth operations.
   - Assist in training new employees or temporary staff.
**Qualifications and Skills:**
 - High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a similar role is beneficial.
- Forklift certification may be required.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
- Attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures.
**Physical Requirements:**
The role involves physical activities such as lifting, bending, and operating machinery. The ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions is essential.
**Working Conditions:**
Yard operatives typically work in outdoor settings, and the job may involve exposure to dust, noise, and varying temperatures.
