About the role

Cambridgeshire County Council Youth Justice Service and Targeted Support Service provide support to children, young people and their families. The teams provides early intervention support to reduce the risk of harm and reduce escalation of problems to support keeping families together and achieve positive outcomes.  

 

The role of Youth Justice Service Transitions Adviser (YJS TA) sits within the Youth Justice Service, however has close links into the Targeted Support Service, especially those that work with Transitions support.  The YJS TA supports young people (aged 10-18) open to Youth Justice Service who are assessed as attending inappropriate provision or those young people who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) or at risk of becoming NEET.  The YJS TA would offer intensive 1:1 support to young people as part of the wider YJS intervention.

What will you be doing?

You will support a caseload of young people by providing targeted interventions to support them to transition back into suitable education, employment or training.  The intervention will form part of a wider YJS intervention plan.

 

You will complete Education, Training or Employment Assessments to help inform the wider Youth Justice ASSET plus assessment.

   

You will be a single point of contact for a number of education providers, both schools and post 16 establishments to share information and risks regarding the previous convictions and safeguarding information for young people who attend the provision or are applying to attend the provision.    

About you

Qualities:  

·       You will be motivated and dedicated to supporting young people and their families in achieving positive outcomes.  

·       Ability to build and maintain good working relationships with young people and their families and a with range of other professionals/agencies

·       Ability to plan, prioritise and manage time effectively to meet the needs of the role.

·       Effective verbal and written communication skills across diverse disciplines

·       Ability to manage challenging situations, maintaining professional boundaries.

·       You will be willing to continue your professional development through informal and formal training.  

 

Skills and Experience:  

·       Knowledge and experience of working with young people in a variety of settings and with challenging behaviours.

·       Knowledge of opportunities in employment and training for young people and evidence of working with providers.

·       Knowledge of legislation relating to Youth Justice, raising participation and safeguarding.

·       You will have ability to produce, keep and maintain good case recording and assessments.

·       Willingness to travel locally and across the County.

Applicants must be eligible to work in the UK.  Successful applicants will be subject to an enhanced DBS check. 

 

You will be required to hold a full and valid driving license and have access to a vehicle or have the ability to otherwise travel efficiently between locations. 

 

Interviews may include a young people’s panel in addition to a management interview panel.
