About Haringey

We are investing in creating a better borough for all our residents and bettering the lives of children and young people in Haringey is our first corporate priority. We are located in the north of the capital with a population of approximately 250,000 people and a growing population of 0-19-year-olds. We are a diverse and fast-changing borough and tomorrow’s leaders; artists and innovators are busy growing up here.
Haringey is transforming its services for children and young people, and have already made exciting, innovative changes as we strive for excellence in all we do.
In short, we’re a council with high ambitions; a place to work that is full of energy and focus. Our teams have passion, integrity and commitment, and people join us, do so as they see Haringey is a learning organisation, and the people that work here strive for continuous improvement in their practice, aiming high to ensure we provide outstanding outcomes for our children.

About the Role

The role outlined involves leading and advocating for young people with significant caring responsibilities, ensuring they receive the necessary support and services. This includes employing a youth work approach to provide respite for Young Carers, acknowledging the unique challenges they face. The aim is to facilitate their personal and social development through informal education programs.
The focus extends beyond supporting Young Carers to delivering universal youth work across the Borough. This involves engaging with young people in the evenings and occasionally on weekends, providing a platform for them to explore and develop themselves outside of their caring roles. By utilizing a youth work approach, the emphasis is on creating a safe and supportive environment where young people can thrive.
Overall, the role encompasses advocating for and supporting Young Carers while also delivering broader youth work initiatives to benefit all young people in the community. It seeks to empower young individuals, foster their growth, and provide opportunities for social and personal development through informal education and structured activities.

About You

The ideal candidate should have experience in engaging with diverse cultures and backgrounds when working with young people and families. They should be skilled in case management and meeting deadlines effectively. Experience within a collaborative prevention framework involving partners from statutory and voluntary sectors is important. Basic educational qualifications such as GCSE-level literacy and numeracy are expected. Strong communication, relationship-building, negotiation, and interpersonal skills are essential. The candidate should possess organizational agility, adaptability, and a results-oriented approach.
