Job description

Are you passionate about supporting young people?

If so, Community Youth Services needs you!

Based in Sheffield, a vibrant city undergoing wide regeneration, this is an exciting time to join Community Youth Services, which brings together different youth engagement services to meet the needs and aspirations of our young residents.

Rooted in the ethics and values of high-quality youth work, we deliver community-based youth provision that is safe, creative, and ambitious, with young people’s voice at the heart of it, whichever part of the service they engage with.

In partnership with local voluntary youth organisations and statutory services, we are committed to providing an outstanding offer outside of formal education to enable our young residents to thrive. With anti-discriminatory practice and inclusion at the core of everything we do, we recognise the barriers and challenges that some young people face and the importance of providing contextual safeguarding and safe spaces to establish positive relationships with trusted adults.

From our Youth Voice and influence to our universal youth offer, IAG and early intervention and targeted prevention work, we utilise a wide variety of engagement methods, including youth clubs, projects and street-based work, to effect positive change and add social value to the personal and social growth and development of young ‘Sheffielders’.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Youth Voice and Influence Service who are responsible for promoting and supporting the development of Sheffield young residents’ voices across the city.

To do this we need to ensure young residents are at the heart of our work and we are actively listening and acting to support them in developing campaigns.

The Service is looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Youth Voice and Influence Worker to plan, coordinate and facilitate regular face to face sessions with young people, including working evenings, some weekends and during school holidays.

You will need to have youth work experience of working with young people in participation and involvement projects and experience of working with groups of diverse young people aged 10 – 25yrs, as well as a level 6 youth work qualification.

Key Roles

  • Proactively support young people to fully participate in consultations, coproduction, social action, and decision-making processes across the city, regionally and nationally
  • Develop and lead Youth Involvement projects and to promote Youth Voice within the service, across the local authority and the wider community.
  • Attend related networks, meetings, and participation/involvement events, supporting partnership and sharing good practice.
  • Be creative and engaging in your approach to reduce barriers to participation.

For informal enquiries, please contact sarah.stevens@sheffield.gov.uk

We are investing in our workforce and are promoting opportunities to our under-represented groups. We value equality, diversity and inclusion and are focused on increasing the diversity of our workforce, particularly the number of Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic, Disabled and LGBTQ+ people, so that our teams reflect the communities in the city we serve. We are also supporting staff with unpaid caring responsibilities to work flexibly.

It is a great time to join us and we welcome your application.

Under the Disability Confident Scheme, disabled applicants, who meet the essential criteria of this job, are guaranteed an interview.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and safety of children and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. All successful candidates will be required to complete an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check.

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.
