Job Role:
The 1:1 Teaching Assistant will provide dedicated support to a student with special educational needs (SEN), behavioural challenges, or emotional needs ensuring they have equal access to educational opportunities and participate fully in school life. This role is pivotal in facilitating an inclusive, supportive learning environment that caters to the student's individual needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Offer tailored support to a designated student, adapting to their specific educational, emotional, and physical needs.
- Work closely with the classroom teacher to implement individualized learning plans (ILPs) and contribute to planning sessions.
- Facilitate the student's understanding of the curriculum, using a variety of strategies to enhance learning.
- Monitor and report on the student's progress, working closely with teachers, SENCOs (Special Educational Needs Coordinators), and parents/guardians.
- Assist with the development of social skills, both in classroom settings and during breaks.
- Provide emotional support and encouragement to the student, promoting self-esteem and independence.
- Participate in training and development opportunities relevant to the role.
Education and Experience:
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent qualification is preferred.
- Experience working with children, particularly those with SEN, behavioural challenges, or disabilities.
- Understanding of safeguarding practices and policies in an educational setting.
