Southampton City Council are currently looking to recruit within City Services for Waste and Recycling 7.5T Driver/Loaders.
You might be thinking “I don’t have waste collection experience” no problem, we offer in-house, on the job training and instruction on the various vehicles we operate in our fleet, so your experience as a driver will be utilised and your skills and knowledge base will increase.
As well as driving, the post holder is expected to assist with the loading of the vehicle and support colleagues where necessary. Some physical effort is required, including heavy lifting and some walking. You will have the ability to multi-task, prioritise your own workload and deal with events on a reactive basis as and when necessary.
You will be responsible for providing the residents of Southampton with a high quality waste collection service. Focusing on delivering excellent customer service and improving recycling rates across the City.
Southampton City Council provide a waste collection service across the city, providing both domestic and commercial collections.
You will be responsible for the security, correct usage and care of all vehicles and equipment required to carry out your daily tasks. This includes promptly reporting vehicle defects and damage, completing and recording daily vehicle checks and logging any daily issues on the in-cab vehicle system.
You will be responsible for ensuring all work adheres to statutory Health and Safety Regulations and expected standards. You will have a duty to report accidents, incidents and near misses to your line managers and in accordance with Southampton City Councils Health and Safety Policy.

The essential requirements for the post holder are:
- Current C1 Licence and valid Drivers CPC and DQC

- Please note the salary quoted is based on full time hours of 45.5 hours per week.
- The working hours for this role are 06:00 - 16:06, 45.5 hours per week
- Location: City Depot, Millbrook, Southampton
- This is a permanent position.
