There is a strong emphasis on working within a team environment, as the key aim of the BST is to ensure that delivery of support to OAG solicitors is of the highest standard. All members of the team are expected to make an effective contribution to this aim.
The Office of the Advocate General (OAG) is a UK Government department. It is the UK Government’s Scottish Legal Team and provides advice to UK Government Departments, represents the UK Government in Courts and Tribunals in Scotland and supports the Advocate General as a UK Law Officer. The Business Support Team supports approximately 40 solicitors across 3 Divisions and is made up of 8 members of staff. These are the Business Manager (C1), Assistant Business Manager (B1), IT Engineer (B2), PA to the Director (B1), 3 x Administration Officers (A3), and this post (A3).
All relevant training will be provided.
Processing invoices and working with the Assistant Business Manager to ensure financial records are up to date.- Supporting the Business Manager during the annual financial audit by working with the Assistant Business Manager to ensure that auditors requests are fully researched and responded to promptly.
- Working with the Assistant Business Manager to recover costs from client departments.
Administrative Support (40%)
Monitoring the team shared mailbox, and working with the rest of the team to ensure all items that come in are allocated and dealt with.- Printing, copying and preparing papers for court in either paper or electronic bundle format using Adobe Pro.
- Opening and closing electronic files, carrying out electronic filing.
- Other general admin related tasks as required.
Corporate Support (10%)
Organising meetings, booking meeting rooms, researching and arranging travel, and providing executive support to Deputy Directors as required.
Competencies
Support will be provided by an assessor who will work with the successful candidate on a monthly basis. Time will be given during working hours to complete your qualification.
Essential Criteria
1. Proven ability to achieve high standards of accuracy, quality and attention to detail in written and oral communication.
2. Strong time-management and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise work under pressure.
3. Experience of working within a team, including the use of interpersonal and networking skills.
4. Experience of using word processing and spreadsheet software in document preparation.
Location
The role is based at Queen Elizabeth House, the UK Government Hub situated near Waverley station. The Office of the Advocate General (OAG) currently operates a hybrid working model.
All staff are expected to attend the office when business needs require and to spend at least 40% of their working time in the office (measured over a 4-week period).

Minimum Time in Post
You will be expected to remain in post for a minimum of three years unless successful at gaining promotion to a higher Band or Grade.
In the event that further posts are required, a reserve list of successful candidates will be kept for up to 12 months.
You must discuss your intention to apply with your current line manager to help ensure release dates can be agreed.
