About The Role
Here at the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) Team, maximising a person’s human rights and autonomy is at the heart of everything we do. Our task is to ensure that every citizen of Dorset who receives care, gets this support in accordance with the principles of the Mental Capacity Act (2005).
To achieve our task, Dorset Council’s MCA team has three functions:
1. To provide expert advice and guidance to professionals and care staff working in Dorset on MCA issues.
2. To provide bespoke training to Dorset Council staff, and staff within partner organisations including the independent and voluntary sector, on MCA best practice.
3. To coordinate and oversee the provision of Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) authorisations for Dorset citizens.
The team is made up of 13 people, including a Specialist Manager, Assistant Team Manager, 5 MCA Advisors, 2 Best Interests Assessors, and 4 Admin Workers.
What you will be doing
Our admin team are crucial in delivering our key objectives. The role involves using systems such as Outlook, Excel, Word, MS Teams, Powerpoint, as well as internal IT systems. You will be required to answer the phone and direct calls to the appropriate individuals, as well as answering queries where possible. The admin team respond to emails and letters, maintain accurate records, assist with triaging referrals under the supervision of a qualified worker, update spreadsheets, input data and support management to organise virtual and in-person training events. The post holder will be based at County Hall in Dorchester, but most days there will be the option of working from home, depending on the business needs.

About Us
The Mental Capacity Act Team are looking a friendly and hardworking individual to join the team as an Administrative Assistant. The ideal candidate will need to have excellent IT skills as the majority of the work is online. As this role is primarily remote, it will be vital to be able to work independently, using your own initiative. You will also need to be aware of the operations of the whole team and therefore be able to work collaboratively with others as well. It is vital to be able to follow GDPR and uphold confidentiality, as well as having respect for and adopting the high professional standards of the team. The ideal candidate will show interest in learning about the Mental Capacity Act and recognise the importance of upholding Human Rights.
