Hours: 3/3/3 shift pattern 7-3 Earlies, 2-11 Lates and 3 RD (flexible working applications are welcome)

This is a fantastic opportunity to investigate some of the most complex and challenging Public Protection offences, including Serious Assaults, Sexual Offences, Domestic Attempt Murders and Honour Based Offences. Whether you currently work for a neighbouring Constabulary or are moving to the area, apply now for your application to be considered for our Coventry Adult Abuse Team.

The team work closely with partners to help safeguard DA Survivors, whilst building evidential cases for Crown Court. As well as protecting victims from harm via civil orders and extracting them to Refuge.

This is a hugely rewarding area, providing an opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of victims, whilst ensuring that some of the most dangerous offenders are dealt with in a way that ensures justice for the victim and protection for our communities.

There is a strong team spirit with experienced and supportive Supervision and a blend of Police Staff and Officers who are actively encouraged and supported through their Detective Journey to PIP2.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Investigate serious sexual offences as directed by supervision
  • Arrest, detain and/or report individuals for offences, dealing with such persons in accordance with current policy, procedure and legislation
  • Interview suspects in line with current policy, procedure and legislation
  • Ensure continuity for any exhibits obtained during the course of the Investigation
  • Obtain authority for and submission of exhibits for further examination, including forensic and e-Forensic submissions
  • Digest and interpret digital forensic reports
  • Obtain and review third party material in accordance with investigative and disclosure requirements
  • Liaise with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and complete case files in line with CPS guidelines.
  • Attend court as necessary for any purpose as the investigational need dictates including court cases as the officer in the case (OIC)
  • Safeguard victims and their families
  • Make appropriate referrals to relevant support agencies where necessary, for victims, witnesses and offenders
  • Carry out any other duties commensurate with the role and rank

Knowledge & Experience
Essential

  • Working knowledge of Connect, PACE powers and Prisoner Handling
  • Demonstrate knowledge of all current legislation, policies and procedures relevant to the role
  • Working knowledge of Custody, criminal justice agencies and court procedure
  • Effective communication skills using a variety of methods to ensure clear, accurate and appropriate sharing of information
  • Accurate, high standard report writing skills within given time limits
  • IT skills requiring access of Force and national systems
  • Valid driving licence and basic driving grade

Desirable

  • Demonstrate proficient investigative skills including a good knowledge of Criminal Law together with knowledge and understanding of crime investigation procedures and reporting requirements
  • Desire to work towards the PIP2, ICIDP/DDP (Initial Crimes Investigators Development Program/Detective Development Program)
  • To have successfully completed Peace Tier II Interviewing Course

Vetting: Successful applicants will be required to pass Recruitment Vetting and Counter Terrorism Clearance scrutiny prior to commencing their role, this will include a full background & financial disclosure as part of the vetting process.

Medical: Appointment to this role will be dependent upon successfully medical checks, which may include a drugs test and if required a fitness test.
