Salary: up to £37,492 depending on experience

Contract Type: Full Time Permanent

The Role:

 

Working as part of a small team of technical experts, charged with shaping the future airspace and Air Traffic Management operating environment, to ensure that it meets international requirements and delivers the objectives of the Airspace Modernisation Strategy (AMS). Close co-ordination and collaboration with the other elements of Airspace, Air Traffic Management & Aerodromes (AAA) will be essential, as will engagement with other Capability Teams across the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

 

The Airspace Modernisation Delivery (AMD) Team has responsibility for providing regulatory and policy application and implementation, of proposed future UK airspace arrangements and for providing aviation stakeholders, and any other interested parties, with advice and guidance on airspace issues related to operations conducted within UK Airspace.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Collation, analysis and display of safety and intelligence information.
  • Identify trends from safety data or airspace usage data, to identify airspace for review.
  • Conduct detailed analysis of airspace under review and representing findings.
  • Cross departmental collaboration, ensuring data sources and intelligence gathered are, appropriately captured and shared.
  • Assist in preparing the analysis of consultations undertaken by the AMD Team.
  • Collation of safety information derived from Mandatory Occurrence Reports, particularly those relating.
  • Collate airspace access data, received from airspace users and analyse the data to determine trends and safety concerns.
  • Support colleagues in identifying priority plans, milestones, and regulatory enablers for airspace modernisation in the UK.

 

About you:

 

You will have the confidence to work effectively across multi-discipline groups, structures, and stakeholders. In many cases it will be necessary to negotiate effectively and will require high levels of intuition, diplomacy, and tact.

Some of the areas covered by this role will be at the cutting edge of future airspace integration, relying upon your willingness to embrace new concepts and learn about emerging technologies.

 

Essential Skills:

 

  • Confident communicator across all levels, internally and externally.
  • Be reliable, flexible, organised and committed and to enjoy creating collaborating working relationships and being part of a team.
  • Able to work with minimum supervision, have a pro-active approach, meeting timelines.
  • Confident to take on some Project management.
  • A good general knowledge of developments in aviation and aerospace, with an airspace focus.
  • Confident with current IT office applications.

 

Desirable Skills:

 

  • Knowledge of European and International institutions and their working arrangements.
  • Understanding of the UK’s AMS and related aims and objectives, along with the CAAs structure, working practice and procedures.
  • Awareness of National Air Traffic Services (NATS) and other Air Navigation Service providers (ANSPs) and their structures related to Airspace Modernisation.
  • Understanding of UK General Aviation stakeholders’ needs and operations.
  • Broad knowledge of the wider UK aviation industry.
  • Awareness of the needs and impacts of a growing Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) market.
  • Demonstrate knowledge or experience in a technical/engineering field (preferably Aviation).
