Job description

Job Title: Ambulance Fleet Assistant
Location: Epping, Essex (CM16)
Hourly Pay Rate: £10.42
Hours: 37.5 per week Monday to Friday (with an expectation to work some weekends)
Length of the contract: 3 Months
Gi Group are now seeking to appoint an experienced Ambulance Fleet Assistant to our Public Sector client based in Epping. The Ambulance Fleet Assistant will undertake cleaning duties for the purpose of raising standards of cleanliness in order to help reduce the spread of pre-hospital Healthcare Associated Infections. The post holder will also prepare emergency ambulances to a structured plan within strict time schedules, ensuring that those vehicles comply with the Make Ready standard operating procedures and Quality Assurance Checks.
Duties of the Ambulance Fleet Assistant

  • Perform cleaning duties to promote and maintain a clean and infection-free patient treatment environment to mitigate the potential transmission of Healthcare Associated Infections.
  • Maintain vehicle, estate, and facility cleanliness which meets the audit criterion for Infection Prevention and Control in accordance with the Vehicle Cleaning Manual.
  • Prepare resources to meet strict time deadlines and any other operational requirements.
  • Place weekly orders of medical equipment/consumables on an IT system, accepting delivery, and recording, storing, monitoring, and replenishing items as necessary, and filing associated paperwork appropriately.
  • Assist fleet and workshop services in maintaining the operational serviceability of emergency ambulances assigned to the depot or station by undertaking basic vehicle inspections and basic repairs, and initiating fleet services to address vehicle defects.
  • Liaise with internal and external Contractors to arrange ad-hoc emergency vehicle recovery and repairs following breakdowns.
  • Ensure adequate availability of PPE and approved cleaning products and equipment necessary to complete primary objectives.
  • Perform cleaning, disassembling, reassembling, and function testing of key pieces of medical equipment, adhering to the pre-planned maintenance schedule.
  • Liaise with local Operational Managers to support the objective of meeting operational vehicle requirements.
  • Record emergency ambulance mileages and input them into the IT based Fleet Management System.
  • Identify, plan, and arrange services, MOTs, and scheduled maintenance of emergency ambulances through depot workshop service providers.


Role Criteria

  • Full UK driving licence including category C1 (maximum 3 points - dependent on code).
  • Basic numeracy and literacy.
  • Ability to understand routine work procedures and follow in a systematic way.
  • Experience of working to time deadlines.
  • Knowledge of ambulance service operations is desirable.
  • Basic IT and keyboard skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously.
