Job summary

Healthshare Clinic West London consist of Outpatients (7 consulting rooms, phlebotomy and minor-ops room), Imaging (MRI, X-Ray, DEXA, Ultrasound and Cardiac Diagnostics), Endoscopy Suite and Laminar Flow theatre for a range of day surgical procedures.

As an ODP/Anaesthetic Nurse, you will be responsible for delivering excellent care of individual patients moving within the unit throughout their surgical journey. The post holder is expected to practice a high standard of clinical care as part of the multi-disciplinary team and being key in and improving patient experience. The post holder will assess, plan, implement and evaluate care of their patients. Whilst on duty they would be expected to support and encourage the concept of team work, team development and the collaboration between team members

Main duties of the job

The candidates are expected to:

  • Deliver a consistently high standard of patient care utilising evidence-based practice
  • Assessing, planning, delivering and implementing excellent perioperative patient car
  • Prepare equipment and instruments according to operating list requirement, as well as being actively involved in contributing to Surgeons preference cards and organising provision of sets and instruments.
  • Ensure all equipment is checked prior to use and any faults reported to the Theatre lead immediately.
  • Preparing, checking and sending used sets and instruments back to Sterile Services for cleaning and processing, and also to receive and scan in clean sets and instruments returning to the clinic.
  • Prepare and support surgical patients for procedures under Local/Regional Anesthetics.
  • Participate fully as a team member, including working in all areas of the theatre suite, sharing knowledge and information, supporting colleagues, promoting cohesive teamwork and working together to achieve clinical objectives.

  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience in some of the surgical specialties we undertake at the Clinic.
  • Ensuring patient privacy, dignity and confidentiality is maintained at all times.
  • Ability to competently work in theatres, providing support to the Surgeon to maintain a positive patient experience.
  • To ensure all information regarding each surgical procedure is documented accurately and recorded in the Theatre Register, and electronically.
  • Document all instructions for post-operative care.
  • Liaise and communicate with the Surgeon, Anaesthetist, and Theatre team and ward staff as and when necessary regarding Patient Care.

Monitoring and Reporting

  • Be able to identify all key monitoring required for each individual patient and the procedure that they have received.
  • Identify issues, voice concerns and be proactive in raising them with Theatre Lead and completing incident reports where necessary.
  • Communicate with Theatre Team Lead on a regular basis to ensure the smooth running of the operating theatre unit.
  • Raise and voice any concerns regarding Patient care.

  • A Registered nursewith the NMC or Operating Department Practitioner with the HCPC

and have the following key skills and competencies:

  • Knowledge and experience in a range of surgical specialities, including Vascular, ENT, General, Pain Management, Orthopaedics and Ophthalmic surgery

  • Able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Flexible approach to work and the willingness to work in other areas within the Operating Department, such as Recovery.
