Job description

We operate across three sites in Battersea (London), Old Windsor (Berkshire) and Brands Hatch (Kent) and regularly need to transport our animals between the centres and to foster homes in the local areas. Our transport service is critical to the smooth operation and timely care of our animals. We also work with other rescues and partners, and our transport team will be called upon to transport cats and dogs from across the country.
Responsible for the safe transportation of animals between Battersea sites and other locations in the UK, this role will require a full driving licence and ability to confidently navigate through London’s busy streets and also the Berkshire and Kent countryside, driving a variety of vehicles including estate cars and Ford Transit size vans.
Animal handling will be included within the role, with full training provided to ensure staff and animal safety during transit.
About us
At Battersea, we aim to never turn away a dog or cat in need of help. We give each one lots of love and expert care and get to know their characters and quirks so we can find them a new home that’s just right for them.
All the knowledge we gather in our centres helps us to improve the lives of the animals we’ll never meet, through our work with other rescue organisations and charities. We also help people make informed choices when getting a pet, we provide training and welfare advice, and we campaign for changes in the law when we see that dogs and cats or their owners deserve better.
Join us and help us be here for every dog and cat, wherever they are, for as long as they need us.
Animal Partnerships
The Animal Transport Team sits within the Animal Partnerships team. Our Animal Partnerships team works with external rescues and local authorities across the UK, supporting them with the intake of dogs and cats and supplementing Battersea’s regular intake. They are also there for dogs and cats who require a different, specialised environment via our working cat and dog programmes and breed specific rescue work. The Animal Partnerships team also provide the much needed ‘AP-Assists’ in which the team act as an intermediary between two different rescues, helping with animals that may not be able to come into Battersea. The team are constantly looking for new ways to work with external rescues and outlets, to strengthen the incentive to form long-lasting, working partnerships.
What we can offer you
We offer our employees a wide range of benefits to reward them for the value that they bring to Battersea, to support them in their work, to help improve their health and wellbeing, and maintain a healthy work-life balance. These include:
  • 28 days of annual leave (plus 8 days paid public holidays) per year
  • Generous pension contributions – up to 10% employer contribution
  • Free healthcare cash plan, where you can claim for a range of treatment including dental, optical, physiotherapy, chiropody and acupuncture every year
  • Annual interest-free season ticket loans
  • Discounted gym memberships and cycle to work schemes
  • Life insurance
  • Support for your professional and career development, including access to digital and in-person training programmes, a wide range of tools and resources, leadership and management training, mentoring and much more.

Equality, diversity and inclusion at Battersea
At Battersea, we are committed to providing equality of opportunity, and developing and supporting a diverse workforce and inclusive culture in all aspects of our organisation. We aim to ensure that this pledge, reinforced by our values, is embedded in our day-to-day working practices and our work together.
By hearing from and valuing different experiences, perspectives and contributions, we know we can provide the best expert care for every dog and cat who needs us. We particularly welcome applications from people with disabilities and from members of minority ethnic communities, who we know are currently under-represented at Battersea.
As a Disability Confident Committed employer, we're happy to discuss any support or personalisation you may need during your application and/or interview process as part of our workplace adjustments. Please contact jobs@battersea.org.uk or 020 3887 8341.
Closing date: 2nd April 2024
Interview date: TBC
If you think you’re a good fit for the role, and you’re passionate about dogs, cats and our work, then we’d like to hear from you.
