Job Title: Application Development and Software Engineering Manager
Job Location: UK Flexible Location (Remote)
Salary: £65,000 per annum pro rata based on 35 hours per week
Contract Type: Permanent

This is essential to our mission of supporting people in crisis.

Picture yourself orchestrating seamless integrations between systems. You'll be unleashing the potential of the Microsoft technology stack including Dynamics 365 and Power Apps along with Robotic Process Automation.  A key element of your role will be delivering complex, high-risk products and services that directly contribute to our humanitarian cause. You'll be navigating the entire product lifecycle, taking charge and being the expert point of escalation for the team.

Wondering about a day in the life of an Application Development and Software Engineering Manager?  You’ll:

  • Be developing strategies and actively supporting initiatives with a strong emphasis upon user experience, security, and cost reduction.
  • Foster an inclusive engineering culture, empowering accountability and responsibility among developers.
  • Set and manage expectations for senior management and stakeholders, facilitating discussions on high-risk requirements.
  • Drive development and delivery of software applications, integrations, and services, serving as a single point of escalation and issue resolution.
  • Coach and guide teams in Agile, DevOps, and Lean practices, acting as a recognised expert. You'll advocate for these approaches, while constantly innovating to ensure BRC stays on top of best practices.
  • Communicate the value of Application Development and software engineering to stakeholders across the organisation.

    What does it take to be an Application Development and Software Engineering Manager?

  • Practical knowledge of software development planning, covering scope, requirements, resource, budget, and delivery.
  • Strong expertise in monitoring and testing tools for software applications, including functional, synthetic, integration, load testing, and chaos engineering.
  • Good awareness of Microsoft Power Platform, Dynamics 365, Power Apps development best practices and Azure Integration Services.
  • Build and support communities of practice and internal user communities for collaboration, sharing best practices, and governance.
  • Transition to continuous integration delivery and development models through enhanced collaboration, communication, and tooling for streamlined and automated software build, test, and release.
  • It would be desirable but not essential that you have one or more certifications, qualifications, or training courses focused on service management, such as ITIL v4 foundation to higher.
