Applications and Development Engineer
Role Overview
Our client is a founder and innovator of sensing and monitoring systems that have helped save countless lives across the globe for over forty years. They are currently seeking an Applications and Development Engineer to support the global Sales and Applications Engineering teams in maximising the potential of products to promote both current and new business. The position requires the candidate to be highly competent in all forms of communication and, whilst it will be mainly office-based, it may include site visits at locations throughout the UK and possibly globally.
Key Responsibilities
Provide exceptional customer service and adopt a proactive approach focused on the aftermarket, but, occasionally, OEM customers too
Develop solutions to application problems / opportunities
Manage bespoke product modifications for customers via the company's supplier base
Prepare application documentation including CAD technical drawings, system schematics, specifications and installation instructions
Create and obtain approval for manufacturing documents (e.g. drawings, BOMs, specifications etc.)
Provide technical information and support in the preparation of quote / tender documentation, business development and initial installations
Product application support to customers and colleagues throughout the company
Troubleshooting and customer technical support
Lead technical training programs for customers and colleagues throughout the company
Coordinate suppliers and contractors for bespoke products and applications
Coordination and cooperation with all colleagues
Engage in direct and effective communication with suppliers and customers
Participate in team meetings, training courses and workshops when required
Develop and maintain close links with colleagues in order to ensure corporate objectives are met
Present a positive and professional image at all times
Ensure that an excellent customer relationship is established and maintained with all clients
Experience and Skills Required
Essential experience:
Minimum 3 years' experience in automotive electrics and / or electronics customer-facing engineering
Minimum 3 years' practical experience in a business-to-business environment
Experience in working with suppliers on product development or product adaption
Knowledge of electronics product development and automotive working practices
Technical and computer application skills
Must demonstrate basic knowledge of DC circuits and an understanding of analogue and digital electronics
Experience in providing technical training
Use of Electronic test equipment and tools
Computer application skills: CAD (2D and also electrical schematics) and MS Office
Able to demonstrate strong co-ordination skills
Attention to detail is critical
Desirable experience:
Knowledge of cable harness assembly/manufacturing processes
Experience in bracket fabrication
Experience in OEM product development
Knowledge of vehicle electrical system installation techniques
CAD 3D
Education, Qualifications and Training
Essential:
Possess one or more of the following:
Educated to Higher National Certificate (HNC)
NVQ with a technical emphasis in electrical / electronics
Industry-recognised apprenticeship with a major automotive OEM
Desirable:
Higher than HNC
Industry-recognised charter / accreditation within the Automotive industry
