Job description

Why choose the apprenticeship route?

An apprenticeship gives you the opportunity to earn a wage while you learn. There’s no student debt and it’s an excellent route into building a great career in Engineering, with essential skills and practical on the job experience.

Kimpton have been helping to create the sustainable building environments of tomorrow since 1963, through providing innovative M&E and HVAC Services across the Liverpool City Region and beyond. There’s a global race to net zero and our team are on the front line. No one is getting to net zero without engineers.

We want the best and brightest minds to join us, drive us and help us deliver that net zero goal. If that feels like your kind of future, we’d love to have you on board.

Our apprenticeships typically take two different routes, depending on whether you want to train for a role on site, or an office-based role.

The pathway to our site-based roles such as Mechanical and Electrical Installation Engineers, HVAC Service Engineers, Site Supervisors, Team Leaders etc, is via a Craft Apprenticeship;

Craft Apprenticeships:

  • Building Services Engineering Service and Maintenance Engineer
  • Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heat Pump Engineering Technician
  • Electrical Installation Level 3
  • Plumbing and Heating Technician
  • Building Services Engineering Installer / Building Services Engineering Craftsperson
  • Building Services Engineering Senior Technician

Duration: 4 Years
Start date: September 2024
Requirement: Minimum age 18 with a Technical Diploma in Plumbing or Electrical Engineering level 3.

Local colleges offering these courses at 16 include Wirral Met, City of Liverpool College, Hugh Baird, Riverside College and Warrington & Vale Royal College.

You will spend the equivalent of four days working with our team on-site and one day at college. College studies may be on day release or block release depending on which department you join.

The pathway to our office-based roles such as Project Managers, Design Engineers, Estimators etc is via a Technical Apprenticeship;

Technical Apprenticeships:

  • HNC Building Services Engineering

Duration: 2 years
Start date: September 2024
Requirement: Minimum age 18 with a T Level Building Services Engineering for Construction (preferred) or one A-Level

  • BEng (Hons) Building Services Engineering Degree Apprenticeship

Duration: 5 years
Start date: September 2024
Requirement: Minimum age 18 with a T Level Building Services Engineering for Construction (preferred) or 3 A-Levels

You will spend four days working with our team and one day at City of Liverpool College or Liverpool John Moore’s University during term time.

When we recruit for apprenticeships

Our application process opens every year during February and closes at the end of May.

Recruitment is currently OPEN.

Our selection process involves an interview followed by a week of practical experience working with the team on one of our projects during the summer holidays.

From this we will offer roles to the candidates who stand out in their personal fit, ability and suitability for the role for them to come on board in the September, ready to start for the new college term.

The rates we pay are agreed by industry trade bodies and unions and are considerably more than the national minimum wage for apprentices – around 40% higher – and all training costs are paid by us so there’s no student debt!
