Job summary
The Armys 3rd (United Kingdom) Division is Defences principal warfighting formation held at readiness to conduct operations including warfighting at scale. The division consists of c.29,000 personnel and thou-sands of items of equipment. The Division Headquarters (HQ) provides the control and oversight and en-sures that all required operational and training outputs are delivered. The HQ Equipment Cell is the focal point for the management of vehicles, weapons, and communications equipment.
This post provides an opportunity to develop in a busy and operations-focused team. As the Divisional Fleet Manager, you will utilise a range of software and management of information systems to ensure that the Di-visions equipment is accurately balanced; the right equipment at the right place at the right time. You will routinely interact with a range of stakeholders: from Army HQ and HQ Field Army, civilian contractors and subordinate brigade headquarters within the Division. You will join a mixed military and civilian team with the challenge of line-managing the Assistant Fleet Manager, a fellow Civil Servant.

Job description
  • You will be responsible to Staff Officer Grade (SO)1 (Army Lieutenant Colonel) Current Operations through SO2 (Army Major) Equipment for provision of fleet management throughout the Division and support wider Army outputs.
  • Manage and develop the Divisional vehicles and main equipment Excel database and lead on the identity and tagging of equipment on Joint Asset Engineering Solutions Management Information Systems (JAMES MIS).
  • On request, represent 3rd Division and the Divisional viewpoint to the Field Army and Headquarters Equipment Coordinating Conferences.
  • Be the focal point in the Current Operations Branch for vehicle accounting related issues with Field Army, Army Headquarters and Defence Equipment & Support. Act as the interface between the Army Equipment Current Operations and the other Divisional Branches for vehicle matters.
  • Provide fleet management advice on all vehicle matters.
  • Act as Line Manager.
  • There will be occasional requirements to visit units in the UK and abroad.
  • You must react quickly and calmly to an ever-changing demand from the Army. We therefore need an individual who can to remain calm under pressure.
  • There may be the opportunity for the applicant to occasionally work from home following discussion with their line manager.
Person specification
The role focuses on the management and coordination of all military equipment within the 3rd (United Kingdom) Division. Primarily ensuring that the Divisions equipment is accurately balanced to meet the Divisional need; the right equipment at the right place at the right time for both operational and major training events.
The role covers equipment resourcing across the planning through the refinement and operate stages of all major events for the divisional formations as well as reacting to short notice demands from higher headquarters. We are therefore looking for an individual who is able to effectively prioritise their tasks.
We require an individual to represent the Divisions interests to external formations and headquarters, speaking with authority whilst being empowered to make equipment decisions.
We are looking for an individual with strong communication skills as you will have regular interactions with a range of stakeholders and be required to understand different drivers and constraints to effectively manage them to achieve desired outcomes.
