Salary range: £26,873 - £28,770 per annum

We’re seeking a L4 Internal Audit Practitioner Apprentice to start in September 2024 – who is self-motivated with a positive, flexible approach and willingness to contribute towards our excellent reputation for providing a high-quality internal audit assurance service across Oxfordshire County Council.

About us


Oxfordshire County Council’s Internal Audit Team’s overall aim is to provide an independent and objective assurance activity to add value and improve our organisation's operations. Internal Audit supports an organisation to accomplish its objectives by evaluating and improving the effectiveness of risk management, control and governance processes.


Oxfordshire County Council is responsible for administering a budget of £750m across a wide range of public services, from schools to social care, highways maintenance to blue badges.

About the role


You will undertake the L4 Internal Audit Practitioner apprenticeship which includes undertaking the IIA Certificate, at the outset you can apply for membership of the Chartered IIA (Institute of Internal Auditors) and on completion of the IIA Certificate you will obtain IACert designation.


The position will involve supporting the Internal Audit team with the administration of audit projects, and assisting with internal audit fieldwork, reviewing exposure to risk and the effectiveness of controls in place. This will include both desk-based work and visits to other teams and services to undertake audit work, working independently but with the support and under the direction of a Principal Auditor / Audit Manager. You will therefore be a good communicator and demonstrate strong analytical and research skills, producing accurate work with good attention to detail.

About you


You will have an aptitude for learning, problem solving, developing innovative ideas, and continuous improvement.


You will be able to organise and prioritise your workload, work on your own initiative and adopt a proactive approach to any work assigned.


You will have, as a minimum, 5 GCSE’s grade 9-4 / A*-C, or equivalent (including Mathematics and English Language) and 3 A’ levels or equivalent.
