About the Team
The Building Consultancy Group provides Building Surveying, Lease Exit, Project Management and project Monitoring Services to commercial property occupiers, developers and investors throughout the UK from our offices in London, Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow.
The Group enjoys strong and productive relationships with a first rate client base and with many other parts of the business, including our Agency, Investment, Valuation and Asset Management teams and has been identified as an area for strategic growth. We have particularly strong relationships with the London Estates and in the education and hotels sectors.
The London Building Surveying team comprises 4 partners, 2 senior associates, 2 associates, 1 senior surveyor and 4 surveyors and assistant surveyors.
About the Role
We are a well-established, professional and highly regarded Partnership within the industry with an excellent reputation for training and development. We are looking for a student studying a Building Surveying related degree (RICS accredited) to join the London office on a year’s placement.
Working as an Assistant Building Surveyor in our London office, you will work within one of our business groups, getting real experience from day one. You will receive support towards gaining APC competencies and you will be able to attend training days to further develop your knowledge, skills and behaviours so that you can work towards your APC throughout your Placement Year.
Our aim is to nurture creative and dynamic property consultants. Being stuck in an office doing mundane tasks won’t do that; you’ll be getting out on inspections and meeting clients throughout the UK.
About you
You will currently be doing a relevant undergraduate degree that has a ‘year out in industry’ option.
Application process
To begin your journey with Gerald Eve, we ask that you submit your CV and respond to our tailored questions. We encourage you to invest time and effort in providing comprehensive answers within the prescribed word count.
Successful candidates from the initial application will progress to the second stage, this involves a 20-minute Teams Video call with a member of our team. During this interview, you will have the opportunity to engage in a discussion about a number of potential topics.
If you advance to the final stage, you will be invited to our assessment day, this will be taking place, in person, in the London office. The assessment day will comprise a variety of group and individual exercises, offering you the opportunity to showcase your skills and problem-solving abilities. Additionally, you will have the chance to interact with our current graduates and professionals from across the firm. This informal setting will help you gain a genuine understanding of our work culture and what it's like to be part of the Gerald Eve team.
Salary and benefits
  • Salary: competitive based on market and professional experience
  • 26 days’ holiday per year, plus Bank Holidays and extra days at Christmas and New Year
  • Pension – We match your contributions up to 8% (after initial probationary period)
  • 26 weeks full maternity pay
  • 6 weeks full paternity pay
  • Private Medical Insurance with Vitality
  • 1 paid volunteering day per year to help give back to our local communities
  • Performance related staff profit share scheme
  • Wellbeing allowance which can be used for either physical or mental wellbeing activities
  • Access to Peppy for you and your partner – Support through underserved areas of health that fall through the gaps all too often – menopause, fertility, having a baby and men’s health
  • Critical Illness Cover - Employee paid scheme offered at a competitive rate through Aviva
  • Dental Insurance (self-funded) - access to employee-paid dental care at competitive rates
  • Interest Free Season Ticket Loan
  • Interest Free Rental Deposit Loan
  • Group income protection scheme

Alongside our competitive compensation and benefits package we offer all our staff the ongoing opportunities to learn and develop, through in-house CPD sessions, further education support as well as internal and external training programmes. Your progression will be supported and guided by managers and mentors using a transparent framework so you can clearly see what you need to do to get to where you want to be.
We take our social responsibility seriously. At both a firm and an individual level Gerald Eve encourage pro-bono work and volunteering as well as regular social and sporting activities to engage with all your colleagues. We have initiated and participate in a number of fundraising events. These range from sponsored bike rides to parachute jumps, triathlons and overseas treks.
Working hours
The Firm’s core hours are from 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. and you may choose to start and end your day around these hours, provided you still do your 7.25 hours per day. There is no requirement for this to be the same each day, but you are required to keep your manager informed. This position also involves out of hours working on an ‘as necessary’ basis. We are open to considering flexible working arrangements for everyone; this can be discussed during the application process or upon commencement.
