Assistant Director - Acquisitions

The role closes on 27th May 2024 with interviews expected w/c 10th June, in either our London or Coventry office.

A bit about the role... 

The Assistant Director role supports the agency's development expertise to manage the complexities of large-scale growth and brownfield regeneration projects, particularly in cities like Sheffield, Newcastle, and Bristol. This role offers an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact for the Brownfield, Infrastructure and Land (BIL) programme and contribute to its success by providing leadership, expertise, and support across key areas of operation.

Working in a team with Ken Glendinning, Director of Acquisitions and Partnering, the Assistant Director of Acquisitions role will play a critical role in Development. You will lead a small team of talented and experienced people, who are committed to making positive change across England.

The Assistant Director role supports the agency's development expertise to manage the complexities of large-scale growth and brownfield regeneration projects. This role offers an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact for the Brownfield, Infrastructure and Land (BIL) programme and contribute to its success by providing leadership, expertise, and support across key areas of operation.

As one of four Assistant Directors within the Acquisitions & Partnering leadership team, this role has a national BIL related remit as well as local relationship with the regional management teams, each comprising around 6-10+ full-time employees. The position holds joint responsibility for managing BIL acquisition budget and supports the implementation of Homes England’s land acquisition strategy. This involves efficient use of budgets, resources, and land to meet the Government’s goals of increasing new home supply. The Assistant Director manages BIL acquisitions of both national portfolios, land assembly and single sites, ensuring seamless coordination between other acquisitions and delivery functions.

This role will not be programme specific and will operate flexibly to ensure agility in response to BIL's needs and the wider needs of the agency.

A bit about you…

You will have proven experience at a similar level in specialist areas such as regeneration, commercial structuring, and financial accounting, with strong leadership and team management skills.  You will have excellent understanding of programme management, reporting, and operational requirements whilst being a strategic thinker with a focus on achieving results and driving efficiency.

It would be desirable for you to have RICS/MRTPI or appropriate professional qualifications /membership or willingness to gain appropriate professional qualifications/membership. 

You'll be comfortable supporting the wider Development team with complex site and relationship issues, aiming to convert new and existing pipeline opportunities to create homes and jobs.
