Role OverviewWe are seeking an Assistant Director of Property and Space to lead play a valuable part in this transformation. Reporting to the Director of Estates, Facilities, and Capital Development, you'll provide professional leadership and strategic guidance for all aspects of estates property, space planning, and utilisation activities. Key Responsibilities Develop and implement all Property and Space aspects of the University Estate Strategy 2023-2030 and associated c.£1 billion Estate Masterplan Investment Programme. Collaborate with senior managers across the university, faculty stakeholders, and professional services units to define, meet and maintain the agreed space requirements. Act as a strategic lead for property management, ensuring legal obligations are observed and a 'corporate landlord' approach is adopted. Lead and enhance the Space Management function, optimising space efficiency and utilisation. Compile executive-level reports for relevant committees and deliver the Higher Education Estate Management Report (EMR) and other statistical data sets. Lead the Property and Space Management teams, overseeing recruitment, performance management, and adherence to financial regulations. Act as a key stakeholder in property investment business cases and manage contracts, leases, projects, and resource requirements. Maintain stakeholder engagement and communication with internal and external partners. Lead and develop the Property and Space Management teams, fostering a culture of professionalism and service excellence. Requirements Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to manage and motivate staff and create a positive team ethos. Strong planning and organisation skills. Extensive knowledge of Space and Property Management, Acquisitions, Disposals and Asset Management systems. Knowledge of health and safety, Space Management, procurement, and project management. Relevant education or substantial experience in space and property management. Accredited member of a relevant professional body (e.g., RICS) or evidence of training towards achieving professional status. Experience in building relationships, property negotiations, and leading multi-disciplinary teams. Financial management and change management experience.
