The Role and You:

An opportunity has come up for a senior strategic communications professional to join a multi-award winning team at the heart of one of the most exciting city regions in the country.

As Assistant Director of Transport Communications at Greater Manchester Combined Authority, you’ll work closely with Transport for Greater Manchester and be in a pivotal senior role helping to set and communicate the city-region’s ambitious transport agenda. Transport is at the heart of Greater Manchester’s vision for a greener, fairer and more prosperous place and its ambitious new devolution deal.

You’ll work closely with the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Transport and Active Travel Commissioners, as well as the Group Chief Executive for the Greater Manchester Combined Authority and the senior leadership team at Transport for Greater Manchester. You’ll also work closely with leaders and chief executives of the ten councils here.

You’ll lead a team of communications professionals focusing on transport within a wider communications and engagement team looking after broader thematic portfolios. You’ll also work closely with partners spanning all sectors in Greater Manchester.

We’re looking for someone who will enjoy working in a fast paced and high profile communications environment. And someone who cares deeply about looking after their team’s wellbeing and development.

In return we offer a role in a high performing organisation and well-regarded organisation, with an attractive package of benefits including flexible working, generous annual leave, training and development and the opportunity to expand your boundaries beyond one ‘traditional’ organisation.

The closing date for applications is Sunday 21 April, with interviews expected to be held on Monday 13 and Tuesday 14 May.

Our hybrid working policy sets out a flexible approach, combining attendance at our [Manchester city centre office / Fire and Rescue service HQ in Swinton / other location] with remote working, typically from home; the location of work is primarily dictated by the needs of the business: ‘Do what is right for you and the business on that day’. If appointed to the role you will work with your manager to agree and regularly review the best working pattern for you, your team and your work.
