Coventry City Council are recruiting for an Assistant Dog Enforcement Officer to join our successful team consisting of 10 pest control/Dog Enforcement Officers, 2 x commercial support officers. providing pest control and Dog Enforcement service for Coventry.


What is the job role?

We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate person who cares about their local environment and will look at ways to ensure that public health standards are maintained by employing safe working practices when dealing with dogs.

Under the general direction of the Pest Control/Dog Enforcement manager, you will deal with all aspects of Stray Dogs/Dog Enforcement. including:

  • Assist and support with Dog Enforcement work dealing with dog-related offenses and the issuing of fixed penalty notices.
  • Collection of stray dogs
  • Reuniting dogs back with their owners
  • All kennel duties associated with the role.
  • Keeping up-to-date records of all stray dogs that come into our kennels.
  • The post involves working all weekends and bank holidays

You will be given full training for Dog Enforcement.

Who are we looking for?

You should understand the principles of customer care and quality and can communicate effectively at all levels both orally and in writing with people from a range of backgrounds.

You will need to be able to:

  • Handle various types of dogs from the smallest dog to a very large aggressive dog
  • Effectively manage a demanding workload and deal with conflicting priorities.
  • Use of the Microsoft Office software suite to produce word-processed documentation including letters and reports to a high standard.
  • Influencing, persuading, and negotiating skills and the ability to deal effectively with conflict and aggression.

You must also hold a full driving licence and have the ability to travel around a wide area of the city to carry out district work.

This recruitment process will be in two parts, the first part is attending an event at the Whitley Depot on 8th March 2024 where you will hear all about the service, and have a tour of the kennels followed by an assessment. Once you apply for this position you will be invited to book a place to attend.

The second part is for you to attend a face-to-face interview on the 15th of March 24. You will only be asked to attend an interview if you have been successful in part one of the process.
