Assistant Engineer Level 3Flood Risk Management- Highways (ID:2811)

Working Hours: 35 Hours per week

Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Additional Payments: Casual Car User Allowance

This role is subject to -

Qualification - Must hold or be willing to work towards ONC / OND in Civil Engineering or other relevant discipline or be able to demonstrate relevant experience of working in a related field such as the highway, planning/construction or environmental sectors. It would be highly advantageous to have a background in Flood Risk Management and a good understanding of the technical assessment process for planning applications.

Casual Car Documentation - The successful candidate will be a designated Casual Car User which means that car journeys may be necessary on an occasional basis but are not essential to the role. If you do drive, you must always hold a full valid driving licence and provide your own car for use at work, as well as provide all the appropriate documentation. You will receive an allowance per mile of business use.

The salary of the role is Grade 7 £34,834 to £38,223 (bar at £37,336) - however, we are willing to accept candidates who have limited experience or who will need to study for the relevant qualification.  For the duration of the development plan, you will be paid Grade 6 £30,825 to £33,945 (bar at £33,024).

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Flood Risk Management Team.

This role will make a significant contribution to Flood Risk resilience and sustainable drainage in Manchester. It provides an exciting opportunity for exposure to a diverse range of challenges as an Assistant Engineer of the Lead Local Flood Authority.

The role will be crucial in ensuring the highest standard development is brought forward for the city, by providing specialist advice to the Local Planning Authority on a range of planning applications.

The role will also investigate Flood Risk and deliver betterment for our existing communities, in collaboration with our partner authorities and stakeholders.

The responsibilities of this G7 Assistant Engineer will include:

· Undertake the role of Assistant Engineer / Planning Application Assessor within the Flood Risk Management team.

· With support and guidance from senior officers, they will manage their own caseload of diverse minor development planning applications, providing high quality technical responses on Flood Risk and drainage matters and maintaining communication with the Planning Authority.

· Support with updating the team GIS asset register with new survey information and other Flood Risk data.

· Support delivery of our GIS Data Screening application service including engaging with the customer and working to delivery within the formal timeframe.

· Assist other team members in the engagement of developers for pre-application discussions.

· Support the wider team to review and resolve Flood Risk and drainage enquiries.

· Support the team’s undertaking of stakeholder support and influence / negotiation with partners in other Risk Management authorities (such as Environment Agency, United Utilities, GMCA).

· Carry out a supportive role in the winning and delivery of funded projects.

· Support the team in revising and implementing planning policies and procedures for Technical Guidance.

· Assist with maintaining a close working relationship with the Planning Team and wider Highways Service.

This post requires an ONC / OND in Civil Engineering or other relevant discipline, or relevant experience working in a related field such as the highway, planning/construction or environmental sectors.
