About the Opportunity
Jacobs are recruiting for Assistant Engineers to join our Nuclear Power Engineering and Technical Services team supporting our key client EDF Energy Nuclear Generation with their nuclear fleet in the UK. This is a key role within our project management and engineering teams which are spread across our UK network at all UK sites and stations. You will be part of a large client-led team at EDF's Dungeness B Power Station and this role will support activities on site.
Since 1983 Dungeness B has generated low carbon electricity for 38.2 million homes and was the first Advanced Gas-cooled Reactor to begin construction in the UK. The station is now at a new phase in its life - defueling and decommissioning. This involves the safe removal of all spent fuel from the reactor core, the cooling ponds and stores whilst looking ahead and preparing for deconstruction. At a time of nuclear resurgence working for Jacobs at Dungeness B offers a unique opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills within an operational defueling environment whilst also looking ahead to future potential opportunities in nuclear new build or decommissioning and deconstruction.
  • The Assistant Engineer's responsibilities include completing all tasks assigned by the Engineer/Senior Engineer. The Assistant Engineer should have the ability to diagnose problems and follow instructions in a site and office environment.
  • The role will be based at the EDF Dungeness B Power Station or at our Ashford offices in Kent. Flexible working arrangements between office and home may be possible, however the role will predominantly be based at Dungeness or Ashford. In this role you will report to the Jacobs Site Lead, but be accountable for task delivery directly to the client engineering team.
  • Everyone working in our team will have a proven track record of working within highly regulated environments with high safety standards and culture. Safety training, site training and mentoring will be provided in this role.

Here's What You'll Need:
  • A completed apprenticeship or similar experience is recommended, though consideration will be given to college leavers looking to come straight into the workplace.
  • HNC/HND/degree qualified looking for entry into the workplace.
  • Good analytical, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and to collaborate with others.
  • Able to prepare and maintain engineering documentation for example Quality Plans and technical specifications.
  • Work experience in an industrial/site setting would be helpful.
  • Nuclear experience not essential.
