Job Title: Assistant Group Head of Wasteand Recycling

To assist the Group Head of Waste and Recycling implement the NCA Waste Policies and Procedures in line with HTM 07-01 and the Environment Act.
The Assistant Group Head of Wasteand Recycling will ensure that the NCA achieves continuous improvement in the segregation of both hazardous and Non-hazardous waste. The post holder will also assist with strategy to ensure that the NCA achieves its targets set out in the NCA Green Plan.
Main duties of the job
- Monitoring the Quality of Waste Services throughout the NCA and Implementing the Trust Waste Policy, HTM 07.01 and NHS England Clinical Waste Strategy.
- Identifying areas of the waste routes that are not compliant and delivering Training to Large Groups where necessary.
- Delivering awareness raising activities, campaigns, and events to increase staff motivation to reduce all forms of Waste
- Work in clinical environments with sensitivity to the privacy and dignity of patients when contact is required or occurs.
- Support the Sustainability team with other relevant tasks as required.
- The role involves formal line management of Waste Officers.
- Deputising for the Group Head of Waste and Recycling, including attending Internal and External Meetings and site visits.
- Assisting with the introduction of the NCA Waste Revolution that has been developed to improve segregation and compliance within the NCA.
- Assist with all areas of Waste and Recycling improvement to deliver the NCA Green Plan and help the NCA become a sustainable healthcare provider.
- Respond to questions and enquiries from staff and Stakeholders in relation to waste streams and procedures.
- Assist with monitoring, collating, and reporting of Waste Management Information.
- Carry out waste audits and documentation reviews where needed.
- Undertake Duty of Care Audits on incumbent suppliers waste plants, transfer stations and other properties.
- Communicate with contractors in relation to the operational and administrative elements of Waste management.
- Communicate with Clinical Teams, non-Clinical teams team’s and all stakeholders in all areas of Waste Production, Legislation and Projects

Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of implementing healthcare waste policies and procedures
- Experience of staff management and implementation of HR policies
Desirable criteria
- Previous waste management training or qualification (preferably healthcare)
- Experience of project implementation regarding healthcare waste management and improved segregation of Waste
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Numerical and data analysis skills including knowledge of financial procedures
- Experience of working within an NHS Trust/s estates or facilities environment
- Ability to use initiative and to work unsupervised
Desirable criteria
- Ability to manage a variable workload and be flexible to service needs where required.
