About the role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part-time  Assistant Secretary to join  the Member relations team of BMA Cymru/Wales.  The role is a hybrid role based a minimum of 2 days per week in the Cardiff office
The Assistant Secretary will provide individual case representation on complex issues to ensure that members receive the best possible individual advice/representation.  They will be responsible for several Health Boards across the area, facilitating the local negotiating committees, ensuring terms and conditions are protected and enhanced.    The successful applicant will also provide advice and support to Welsh national branch of practice (BoP) committee Chairs on contractual and collective negotiations.  They will also be accountable for line managing other members of the Member relations team leading in their coaching and development.


To be successful as an Assistant Secretary you'll have:

  • Extensive working experience of complex casework, advising / representing employees and /or employers
  • Up to date and in-depth expert knowledge of employment law, employee relations, human resource policies, procedures and good practice
  • Knowledge of the terms and conditions under which NHS doctors work
  • Knowledge of NHS structures in Wales and an understanding of the key issues facing the medical profession in Wales is also desirable
  • The ability to manage a demanding workload 
  • Effective presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal, networking and stakeholder management skills
  • Excellent negotiation & influencing skills. 
  • Line Management experience (desirable)
  • A CIPD qualification (desirable)
