Role responsibilities

As Assistant Technician at our Machynlleth depot, you will be responsible for various Shunting and Technical/other duties which will include, but not be limited to:

• Ensuring the safe control of movement of our trains on the running lines within the depot. You will be involved with planning movements and then control movement our trains to their required positions within the depot.
• Work alongside the Team Leaders and Technicians assisting as required with various planned and unplanned Maintenance tasks, this role is pivotal in helping us to achieve our high standards of Train Maintenance and fault diagnosis. This in turn will ensure our targets are not only consistently met but improved.
• Carry out Depot cleaning as and when required assisting in ensuring the Depot is safe, clean and tidy at all times and perform the occasional maintenance of the track infrastructure within the depot. Additional duties will include shunting duties at other locations.

This role will cover a variety of shift patters including days, nights, weekends and Bank Holidays, so flexibility is essential.

Who we’re looking for

• Demonstratable high levels of concentration.
• Ability to work as a strong team player and use own initiative whilst adhering to strict rules and procedures and be committed to working towards the continual improvement of the depot.
• Good knowledge of covering mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical systems.
• Possess a “can do” attitude with a flexible, innovative approach to problem solving.

Welsh Language Skills

The ability to speak/write Welsh would make a great addition to your application, but it is not essential for this role.

Transport for Wales supports and promotes the use of the Welsh Language by employees and will encourage them to develop, improve and maintain their Welsh Language skills. We fully support our people who want to improve their Welsh language skills, and personal development for Welsh Language skills are offered in a variety of ways such as online learning, classroom courses and funding attendance at local community courses.
