Clinical Audit Project Manager (Maternity Cover)

Job Purpose

The Clinical Audit Project Manager is a pivotal role within the quality improvement (QI) department in BSR and provides dedicated management to the National Early Inflammatory Arthritis Audit (NEIAA). NEIAA is the largest outpatient audit in England and Wales, contracted by the Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership’s (HQIP), and is now operating under a new extended scope to collect data on additional diseases. NEIAA is a vital component of BSR’s aim to promote excellence and drive-up standards in rheumatology services.

The Clinical Audit Project Manager provides line and leadership management to the audit administrator and works closely with the Head of Quality Improvement. The audit is supported by several stakeholders, internally and externally. A clinical team meet regularly to ensure the smooth running of the day-to-day audit activities and we have a great partnership with this team which include a clinical lead and Kings College London, who provide the analysis for the audit.

We also have a project working group, senior governance group and patient panel who provide advice and guidance along with responsibilities of overseeing the audit. The Clinical Audit Project Manager will be responsible for managing these groups, along with support from the Clinical Administrator.

Along with writing and publishing the Year 6 State of the Nation report, the Clinical Audit Project Manager will be working closely with the Head of Quality Improvement to implement a new quality improvement plan with the aim to promote the use of NEIA data to improve processes and patient outcomes in England and Wales.

Responsibilities

1. Project and operational management

  • Project management of national audit, ensure the delivery of annual workplan on time and within budget, publishing outcomes to share with members and key stakeholders.
  • Provide operational leadership to the HQIP Audit Project ensuring the smooth running of the audit through the management of stakeholders, marketing and communications, governance, resources, budget, information governance, contracts, web-platform development, impact and risk, QI and planning its development and growth, driving clinical and patient engagement.
  • Oversee the delivery of effective and efficient administrative processes relating to Audit Projects.
  • Establish appropriate structures and processes to drive forward key activities (including appropriate governance), evaluating success and impact against identified metrics.

2. Leadership and collaboration

  • Lead, coach and line manage the Clinical Audits Administrator, including through the identification and delivery of professional development opportunities.
  • Work effectively with platform providers to ensure audit platforms are fit for purpose and user friendly.
  • Develop excellent working relationships with all clinicians and BSR members involved across the Audit Projects.
  • Maintain effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including NHS organisations, BSR membership, government, patient charities and others.
  • Engage BSR members and BSR colleagues in the development of audit resources, including training and educational content.
  • Contribute to the strategic and annual planning processes and identify priorities for the audit team.

3. Communications

  • Oversee the delivery of outputs – including externally published reports and press releases.
  • Oversee effective communication with audit participants through relevant channels including e-bulletins, website pages and social media.
  • Work with colleagues on devising initiatives to maximise participation in audits and to identify opportunities to promote the BSR’s Audit Projects.
  • Work with BSR colleagues and Audit Projects’ operational teams to effectively communicate the importance of using data for improvement and the value of audit.
  • Represent BSR at external meetings related to audit.

Person Specification

  1.  Experience in contract management, including budget and risk management. 
  2.  Demonstrable experience of successful project management.
  3.  Ability to build effective collaborative partnerships with a diverse range of stakeholders to influence change. 
  4.  Knowledge of information governance, data protection and how legislation is applied in practice.
  5.  Excellent communication and audience awareness, with the ability to plan and deliver engagement strategies.
  6.  Leadership and line management experience.
