Job description

Our partner schools in the Solihull area seek committed, knowledgeable Teaching Assistants who are passionate about providing outstanding ASC support.

Are you a dedicated and experienced Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting students with Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC)? Perhaps you have experience of working with people with Autism in a different workplace setting? Are you trained in the use of Makaton and PECs or have experience working with non-verbal communication? If you're a skilled and passionate Autism specialist, Team Educate would love to hear from you!

Our schools are devoted to their students' education and wellbeing, and we welcome applications from Autism Support Specialists who are equally as committed to the children in their care and supporting the collaborative ethos of our schools. Experience in a Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant role, in Support Work or Care, or working alongside young people with ASC in a formal setting will be required to make the most of this opportunity. The ability to build and foster strong working relationships with young people and to utilise strategies to support engagement will ensure success for both yourself and your pupils.

Autism Support Teaching Assistants' responsibilities will include:

  • Provide support and assistance to individuals with special educational needs, namely ASC, in order to promote academic and social development.
  • Use your skillset to communicate with learners and support them in their studies to foster engagement in the classroom, utilising well-rehearsed behaviour management strategies.
  • Assist in the implementation of IEPs and EHCPs.
  • Collaborate with specialist teachers to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment for the children.

Autism Support Teaching Assistants will need:

  • Previous experience of working with children or young adults with ASC.
  • Knowledge of Special Education and safeguarding is advantageous. Relevant training and qualifications are desirable.
  • Training in relevant fields such as Makaton, PECs, Team Teach or CALM would be beneficial to the role.
  • Patience, empathy, and compassion when working with children.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in making a difference in the lives of children with special needs. If you have an unwavering commitment to supporting students with ASC, this role will promise plenty of reward and fulfilment. If you are interested in the above position, please submit your CV today and one of our friendly team will be in touch to discuss the position in more detail.
