POSITION: Battery Management System (BMS) - Technical Group Lead
POSTING END DATE: 14/03/2024
LOCATION: Gaydon (with frequent travel to our battery build and test facilities across the Midlands)
SALARY: Competitive

JLR's Reimagine strategy - to realise our vision to be proud creators of the most desirable, modern luxury brands, for the most discerning of clients - is delivering a sustainability-rich vision of modern luxury by design and we are transforming our business to become carbon net zero across our supply chain, products, and operations by 2039.
WHAT TO EXPECT
JLR Propulsion is a place to grow your experience, knowledge and ability. We are on an exciting transformation journey to continuously improve our culture, Diversity & Inclusion and workplace experience across the whole Propulsion Tech Centre.
This is an exciting time to become a part of JLR history with our future all electric portfolio and delivering our first in house battery - design and delivery from the ground up.
This leadership position is responsible for the Battery Management System (BMS) for our new electrified vehicles. This includes both responsibility for the key hardware in the Battery Management system, the software feature and function delivery, and the future strategic direction of the system to optimise the High Voltage (HV) Battery.
The BMS team will manage the integration and delivery of our software and hardware onto all of our new platforms and ensure a common topology and philosophy is executed at speed and precision onto every one of our BEV vehicles. As such, this role has huge potential to steer and lead this world class team to deliver exceptional capability to our customers with high quality.
You will be part of the wider Propulsion leadership team developing the best working environment for our people, focused on our Creators Code behaviours, and with a keen eye on the growth and development of yourself and your team.
If you are keen to make an impact on both the engineering team delivering cutting edge high voltage propulsions systems and the fantastic vehicles we produce, this is the opportunity you are looking for.
JLR, of course, provides training around management, cultural and technical aspects on an on-going basis to support you in your growth and development.
THE ROLE
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership and support the development of a team of highly skilled delivery, design, release, integration, validation and attribute engineers.
  • Adopt a system engineering approach through collaboration within Propulsion and with the wider vehicle engineering organisation.
  • Drive the JLR standards, ensuring robust system design, development and integration.
  • Develop and lead key internal relationships on critical component areas within the Battery Electronics Module (BEM), the HV battery pack, the control system software team, and the wider HV system.
  • Engage cross functionally with Vehicle Line, Industrial Operations, Engineering Operations, Procurement and Finance teams (through the Propulsion Unit Line Director).
  • Develop and maintain key supplier relationships (internal and external), maximising commonality, best practice and value for money.
  • Develop and align the business on future strategy for the Battery Management System.
  • Lead the continuous improvement of engineering processes.
  • Undertake any other work as directed by the Director of Propulsion.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Ability to lead and develop an engineering hardware and software delivery team.
  • Strong business & commercial acumen to enable developing BMS strategy, supplier selection & negotiation.
  • Extensive knowledge of Propulsion Systems, particularly focussed on Battery Management Systems and BMS software functions.

  • Ability to identify, influence, standardise and deliver process and efficiency improvements across direct team and interface departments.
  • Experience of building, guiding and developing successful teams.
  • Ability to communicate and present to Executive directors and Board level representatives.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Financial management (planning, management, investment)
  • Appropriate technical certifications (CISM, CISSP, CTIA, etc.)
  • Experience and practitioner of Agile working (e.g. SAFe, Scrum, etc), plus waterfall and hybrid delivery.
  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience.
  • Experience of working in a global role, with knowledge and expertise of managing on a global basis.

Personal Profile
  • Demonstrates our Creators' Code behaviours of Customer Love, Unity, Integrity, Growth and Impact.
  • An individual passionate about growth and development, who both actively seeks feedback to improve themselves, and uses feedback constructively to develop their teams.
  • A determined individual, highly driven, committed and results-orientated who works with pace, energy and confidence.
  • An individual who is able to apply analytical rigour to develop and drive well thought out operational plans, collaborate across functions and combine a short term, pragmatic focus with strategic vision.
  • An individual who is resilient, energetic and enthusiastic, responds constructively to new ideas and input in a changing business environment.
  • An individual who is able to dispute existing thinking in a positive way whilst building credibility and trust through experience and personal style.
  • A sophisticated communicator who is able to communicate directly, clearly and openly.
  • A technically curious individual who can use data and logical argument to defend a position, dispute constructively opposing views, or dive deep into unfamiliar processes and issues.
  • An individual who can demonstrate good capability in leadership and management skills, who can motivate, develop and lead functional and cross-functional teams.

At JLR, we are passionate about our people. They are at the heart of our business. We are committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive culture that is representative of our global customers and the society in which we live; a culture in which every one of our employees can bring their authentic self to work and reach their full potential.
