Job description

Occupying three beautiful campuses (Whiteknights, with its early 19th century planned landscape, London Road with its formal gardens and ceremonial Great Hall, and Greenlands, Henley-on-Thames, with its riverside garden landscape) the unique “University within a Park” setting of the University of Reading is an inspiring place to come to work. As well as being responsible for the management and maintenance of the University’s academic teaching and research buildings, we also care for a significant collection of Champion Trees, an expansive lake and the university SportsPark.The post holder will be assisting the BMS Senior Technical Specialist for the day-to-day operation, ongoing maintenance, and upgrade/development of the University’s Building Management systems. The successful candidate will be part of the BMS team and be required to work directly with University Schools and Functions to provide a full range of BMS and engineering building services support. The role will involve working with the Estates DLO teams to solve HVAC maintenance issues with equipment controlled and connected to EcoStruxure and Continuum (Schneider) BMS systems. Assisting and advising contractors on points, software and the location of controllers while upgrades are taking place.The role holder will have knowledge/experience with HVAC or electrical/electronic systems. Experience with Schneider BMS systems would be an advantage, but training will be offered to achieve Scheider accreditation in EcoStruxure software and systems. Skills will be developed to contribute to the efficiency and function of the BMS to align with the sustainable outlook of the University of Reading.The role holder will need to have good interpersonal skills to speak with colleagues from various departments to be able solve problems with the BMS, create reports/charts and express the outcome in terminology to be understood by all.You will have: A background in HVAC or electrical/electronic servicing or installation. Level 3 related engineering qualification (electrical/mechanical/HVAC). Good numerical and analytical skills and be able to work as a member of a team. Knowledge of control systems/schemes associated with HVAC systems. Due to the nature of the role a current driver’s license and be prepared to work outside normal working hours in emergency situations. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to engage with a range of stakeholders. A positive and proactive approach to managing Health & Safety and for promoting its importance in building maintenance and how to apply this in a varied estate. Good IT Knowledge with experience of using Microsoft Office package.
