Bookkeeper

Cogent Staffing are recruiting on behalf of our Halifax based client for an experienced Bookkeeper to join our growing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing invoices, reconciling bank statements, and preparing management reports for our diverse client base. Strong proficiency in using cloud-based accounting software, particularly Xero and/or Sage, is essential.

Shift/salary:

• To begin, working full time hours (big project to box off) Monday to Friday 08:00-17:00 or 09:00-18:00
• Ongoing, temporary placement
• Possible temporary to permanent opportunity
• Moving to full or part time hours depending on what suits
• Salary range £28,000-£30,000 (part time hours pro rata)
• To be considered for the higher salary you must have experience doing reconciliations, matching POs to invoices, onboarding new company financial processes into existing companies, working with Xero and Sage

The role:

• Manage full-cycle bookkeeping for assigned clients, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations
• Prepare monthly or quarterly financial reports, such as profit and loss statements and balance sheets
• Liaise with clients to understand their financial requirements and provide proactive support
• Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations
• Assist with the preparation of VAT returns and other tax-related documents
• Provide ad-hoc support and analysis as required

The candidate:

• Proven experience as a Bookkeeper, ideally within a professional accounting firm or similar environment
• Excellent working knowledge of Xero and/or Sage accounting software
• Strong numerical and analytical skills, with attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Excellent communication and client-facing skills
• Relevant bookkeeping or accounting qualification (e.g., AAT, ACCA, or CIMA) is desirable
